During a panel at the Foresight 2024 conference, Gary Tiu, Executive Director and Head of Regulatory Affairs at Hong Kong crypto exchange OSL, highlighted the challenges facing spot ETFs in Hong Kong. Tiu explained that the market's structure, which favors unlisted products due to higher commissions for intermediaries like brokers and banks, leaves little incentive for equity brokers to support ETFs. He also noted a lingering negative bias against crypto among regulators and financial institutions, further stifling the growth of ETFs in the region. Despite these obstacles, Hong Kong's spot BTC & ETH ETFs have accumulated $310 million in net assets with a daily trading volume of $2.8 million. Source: The Block
