An Alabama man was sentenced to 14 months in prison for his role in a January 2024 SIM swap attack that hijacked the SEC’s X account. Using a fake ID to obtain a replacement SIM card linked to the SEC, Council helped co-conspirators access the account and falsely announce Bitcoin ETF approval, briefly inflating BTC’s price.
