The island faces a unique set of challenges—beginning with access.

A panel of experts joined Roundtable to discuss strategies for crypto acceptance. In this segment, Shirley McPhaul Castro discusses how to encourage crypto adoption in Puerto Rico.
"Puerto Rico has a handful of challenges when it comes to massive adoption," says Castro. "We're talking about the most basic thing. For example, in the United States, the national average of homes who own computers is a little bit over 90 percent. In Puerto Rico that percentage is closer to 70 percent, and same for the internet.Only around 64 percent of homes on the island have internet access."
What's more, she says, there is an education gap.
"There is the access to the technology to a certain extent, but access does not guarantee comprehension or being able to use these tools," Castro continues.
"The big challenge here is first to get Puerto Ricans truly digitally literate to the point where they can fully navigate Web3."
