The European Union will implement stringent Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations, effective 2027, banning privacy-focused tokens and anonymous cryptocurrency accounts.

The Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) will prohibit credit institutions, financial institutions, and crypto asset service providers (CASPs) from managing anonymous accounts or supporting privacy-preserving cryptocurrencies like Monero , XMR and ZCash

Per Article 79 of the AMLR, “Credit institutions, financial institutions, and crypto-asset service providers are prohibited from maintaining anonymous accounts,” as outlined in the AML Handbook by the European Crypto Initiative (EUCI).
