Starting next year, the SEC will operate with fewer commissioners as the Senate awaits to approve President-elect Donald Trump’s nominees. Republican commissioners Hester Peirce and Mark Uyeda will temporarily lead the agency following Chair Gary Gensler’s departure, a change Peirce believes could significantly shift how the SEC approaches crypto regulation. Speaking at the Blockchain Association Policy Summit, Peirce suggested the agency might move away from its heavy reliance on enforcement actions as new leadership changes the mix of cases. Uyeda emphasized the need for transparency, advocating for public input through the Administrative Procedure Act, and criticized policies like SAB 121, which bypassed public comment. Both commissioners stressed the importance of rebuilding trust with the crypto industry, with Peirce calling for collaborative efforts to establish clearer, more effective regulations.
