Shopify has partnered with Coinbase to enable USDC crypto payments via the Base network for over 5.5 million merchants globally. This integration, launching with early access and expanding later in 2025, allows seamless, low-cost, and secure onchain transactions through Shopify Payments. Customers can pay with USDC using crypto wallets, with no added setup for merchants, and optional 1% cashback in the U.S. The system uses a jointly developed smart contract protocol that supports tax, refunds, and delayed capture, aiming to simplify and mainstream crypto commerce.
