Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum's co-founder, is advocating for an increase in the network's "blob count" to address scalability limitations, particularly benefiting Layer-2 rollups. Blob space, introduced by EIP-4844 as part of the recent Dencun upgrade, provides temporary data storage, but with blob usage reaching 75%, Buterin sees an urgent need for change. His proposal, EIP-7623, suggests raising the minimum blobs per block from three to four and the maximum from six to eight, while reducing maximum block size to enhance efficiency. This change would improve data handling for L2s and reduce congestion. The proposal has gained support from key figures like Jesse Pollak of Coinbase L2 Base. Meanwhile, Ethereum is preparing for its next major upgrade, Pectra, which will bring further scalability improvements. Source: Coinspeaker
