It was not the best season in 2025 for Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Tanner Scott. There were times where Dodgers manager Dave Roberts called on Scott to nail down victories late.
But Scott really didn't get the job done. In fact, the Dodgers turned Roki Sasaki into the ace closer late in the regular season and into the postseason.
Still, there's some thought that Scott, along with six other Dodgers players, might be able to seriously play a role in the team repeating as World Series champions for a third straight season.
Scott ended up with a 4.21 ERA in 2025. He even missed the postseason due to a procedure that addressed an abscess in his lower body. Scott signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the Dodgers and failed miserably.
Consider the fact that Scott had a 2.04 ERA in 2023 and 2024 while playing for the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres.
The Dodgers bullpen finished with a 4.27 ERA in 2026.
Scott needs to pick it up, especially with Sasaki going back into the starting rotation. If he can find that rhythm where he's able to get hitters out on a regular basis, then Scott can be a solid comeback story for Los Angeles.
Besides Scott, an MLB.com story points out that the Dodgers really need Sasaki, catcher Dalton Rushing, infielder Hyeseong Kim, right-handed pitcher River Ryan, and infielder Alex Freeland to come through.
On Wednesday, the Dodgers signed left-handed pitcher Antoine Kelly to a minor-league deal.
According to Dodgers Nation, Kelly played for the Colorado Rockies' Triple-A affiliate last season. He made 34 appearances and posted a 5.63 ERA with 41 strikeouts across 38.1 innings pitched.
Of course, the Dodgers are going to be in the hunt for fresh bodies. Especially if those bodies might include Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger.
But what's the latest on any Los Angeles courting of these players? Cody Snavely of DodgersBeat shared some news from ESPN's Alden Gonzalez about the situation.
Gonzalez indicates that the Dodgers aren't going to be among aggressive bidders for Tucker. They appear to be willing to stay on the sidelines if Tucker's market collapses. The Dodgers might be looking for a short-term, high-AAV deal if it looks good.
As for Bellinger, there's interest. Yet it remains to be seen of the Dodgers are motivated to get into a bidding war for Bellinger with the New York Yankees.
