Many MLB teams have been looking to make improvements to their rosters ahead of the 2026 regular season. The Los Angeles Dodgers pretty much stole the headlines with two significant signings.
In two areas where the Dodgers needed help, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman went out on the free agent market and nabbed one of MLB's most elite relievers and a World Series-winning outfielder.
Obviously, the Dodgers have big goals this season -- they want to win a third consecutive World Series championship. In order to get this done, though, the Dodgers needed help in the bullpen and some assistance in the outfield.
Edwin Díaz, who last pitched for the New York Mets last season, and Kyle Tucker, who ended up spending just one season with the Chicago Cubs, will now wear Dodger blue in the 2026 MLB season.
Where, though, does Los Angeles rank among the MLB clubs looking to get better through free agency? Chad Jennings of The Athletic did a review of what he termed MLB offseason tiers in a new article on Tuesday.
According to Jennings, the Dodgers won this offseason with simply those two moves.
"They’ve won the past two World Series," Jennings wrote. "Their only glaring weaknesses were the bullpen and the outfield corners. So, they’ve signed the best free-agent closer (Edwin Díaz) and the best free agent, period (Kyle Tucker). Bringing back World Series hero Miguel Rojas was also adorable."
When Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gets to Camelback Ranch - Glendale, the spring training home of the Dodgers, he's going to be sharpening his pencil to get his first lineup card ready as soon as possible.
Roberts can breathe a sigh of relief in the bullpen this season with Díaz out there. Maybe Timmy Trumpet, who played Díaz on the field when he was with the Mets, could make a trip out to Arizona in February or March.
But the important thing to remember is that Díaz and Tucker will need a little time to get used to their new surroundings.
These offseason moves will be watched by Dodgers fans quite closely. Hopefully, for the Dodgers' faithful, Díaz and Tucker can come through in clutch moments.
Los Angeles won the offseason, according to this article, with just two signings. The MLB world will have to adjust to these new additions.
