Seattle Mariners top prospect Jonny Farmelo continued to impress in the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday, blasting a home run while playing for the Peoria Javelinas.
It's the second home run of the AFL season for Farmelo, who was just named an All-Star in the developmental league as well.
A 21-year-old Virginia native, Farmelo was selected with the No. 29 pick in the 2023 draft out of the Virginia high school ranks.
Armed with immense talent, Farmelo has dealt with injuries each of the last two seasons. He missed more than half of the 2024 season with a torn ACL and only played 29 this season because of recovery from that injury and a stress reaction in his rib.
Though his action was limited, he impressed with High-A Everett, hitting .230 with six homers, 16 RBIs and two stolen bases.
He hit .264 in 46 games at Single-A Modesto in 2024, also bringing in 25 runs and stealing 18 bases.
The No. 7 prospect in the organization, per MLB Pipeline, Farmelo is also the No. 75 prospect in baseball. The following comes from a portion of his MLB.com prospect profile:
Farmelo’s speed is an asset in the outfield as well, and he should be at least an above-average defender in center field for a long time. The track record for young players coming back from this injury (the torn ACL) is pretty good, and the Mariners are banking on Farmelo’s plus makeup for him to return to the emerging star he looked like before he went down.
Farmelo is projected to make the big leagues in 2028 as long as he stays healthy and it will be interesting to see where the M's are at if that's the case. Randy Arozarena and Victor Robles are both free agents after the 2026 seasons, so will the Mariners look to just use stopgap guys until Farmelo is ready, or will they go for bigger pieces that could cause a logjam for him? Lazaro Montes is also expected to be ready to be in the mix by Opening Day 2027, and he could help create a logjam as well.
Kade Anderson, Jurrangelo Cijntje, Ryan Sloan, Felnin Celesten, Colt Emerson and Michael Arroyo are other M's prospects in the Top 100. Emerson, Arroyo, Anderson and Cijntje could all debut at some point in 2026.
