Dear BBS Network Community,
As the founder of BBS Network, I'd like to reflect on our journey since our launch on February 22, 2022. This message is both a look back at our past and a roadmap to our future.
Our initial strategy centered around utilizing our tokens to reward contributors. However, the fluctuating token market, coupled with attracting users for unintended reasons, taught us valuable lessons. It became clear that this approach did not foster the organic, vibrant community we envisioned.
In our next phase, we targeted communities impacted by censorship, offering a platform for unfettered free speech through the transparency of a public social network. This shift in strategy coincided with changes at Twitter following its acquisition by Elon Musk, who also recognized the importance of free speech in social media.
While we are pleased to see the evolution of platforms like Twitter, it has prompted us to rethink our unique value proposition. We understand that the future of public social networks is not a question of 'if' but 'when' and more importantly, 'how'.
Over the past year, we have been developing innovative content formats, including video threads. We are also experimenting with a novel model for post/comment reactions, pivoting from simple likes to a more nuanced agree/disagree system. This system is rooted in the principles of liquid democracy, allowing users to amplify their voices through delegates. These developments, however, hinge on the active participation of a dynamic community for effective testing and evolution.
Recognizing this, our strategic focus is now on forming a partnership with a media company that possesses a substantial and relevant audience. This collaboration would enable BBS Network to become the chosen social platform for this audience, fostering interactions and discussions on topics of shared interest. We aim to be at the forefront of the transition from Web2 to Web3 in social media.
In an era where blockchain and decentralized storage solutions are becoming the norm, the continued reliance on privatized social networks is increasingly untenable. It is time for social media to be public, and for users to have the freedom to choose their social media applications, just as they choose their email apps.
Our journey has been one of learning, adapting, and innovating. As we continue to navigate these uncharted waters, your support and engagement are invaluable. Together, we can redefine the landscape of social media.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
Warm regards,
Eyal Hertzog Founder, BBS Network
