Hello! I would like to share a suggestion with you that I noted down a few months ago and have been thinking about from time to time since then. Its name is "Managerial Accounts".

In business life, people become managers of certain companies, organizations, or institutions. They occupy that position/chair. They represent the organization and wear its uniform during working hours. In some organizations, managers wear clothes that distinguish them from other employees, such as special badges or colored neck cards. Judges and, in some countries, lawyers also wear robes.

However, when these people leave their workplaces and go to a bar to hang out with their close friends in the evening, they take off their uniforms, clothes, badges, and robes that they wear at work and live their private lives. Now they sit on a bar stool, not on the chair of the organization they manage. They have fun at the bar without the limitations of their professional identities. Of course, the lives of popular celebrities are not included in this scenario. However, we are giving an example based on 99% of people. Exceptions do not invalidate the general rule.

If people were to wear the specific clothes and symbols of their managerial positions even in their private lives, their personal lives would be greatly restricted. Similarly, their actions during their private lives would affect the organization they manage.

Here at BBS Network, we are creating a social media platform that closely resembles real life. And as BBS Network develops, this resemblance increases, and as the resemblance increases, BBS Network evolves. It becomes easier to use and brings more benefits to users.

In addition, BBS Network incorporates some useful features that have become traditional in other existing social media platforms. 'Managerial accounts' are one such feature. For example, large companies have multiple managerial accounts. For instance, a company called 'X Firm' may have various social media accounts like 'sales@xfirm,' 'humanresources@xfirm,' 'advertisement@xfirm,' 'advertorial@xfirm,' and so on. This is also a requirement for some organizations.

Another issue is that an employee in a managerial position should not represent the position and/or organization after leaving the job. Furthermore, the conflict and animosity that may arise between a former manager and the organization should not negate the contributions the manager made to that organization. For example, when a manager leaves their position, they should not be able to delete, hide, or manipulate (edit) their previous posts and publications on social media.

A feature similar to the transfer of the White House's Twitter accounts, "POTUS" (President of the United States) and "FLOTUS" (First Lady of the United States), to the new holders after elections is needed. I have been wishing for such a feature for a long time, and it is not difficult to imagine that groups, organizations, and companies using BBS Network also need such a feature.

For this purpose -as I mentioned for the first time in our conversation on Weekly Chat Twitter Space a few months ago- here are some possible features of 'Managerial Accounts':

  • Managerial accounts are created by the board owner.
  • Multiple managerial accounts can exist in a board.
  • Managerial accounts do not generate impressions. This feature is to protect advertisers.
  • Activities performed by managerial accounts are not counted for "Engagement Mining" and are ignored. This feature is also to prevent the misuse of managerial accounts for "Engagement Mining."
  • A managerial account is opened for the use of members/moderators determined by the board owner.
  • A managerial account can be used by multiple members.
  • A managerial account is also open to simultaneous use by multiple members.
  • Managerial accounts can join other boards as members due to the communication needs (such as advertising) with other communities.
  • The system records which user (member) performed each action of a managerial account in the background. This way, the board owner and operator know who is responsible for any errors or potential misconduct.
  • The profile picture of managerial accounts includes a badge indicating that it is an managerial account, and/or the profile picture is framed in a square, triangle, or other basic geometric shape instead of a circle.

I might have forgotten the most important thing:

  • Managerial accounts can be the owner/creator of a board. In this case, the managerial account that is the owner of the board has the same privileges as the owners of standard boards. A user can create new boards with multiple managerial accounts. The operator knows the identity of the real user who manages/creates this account. This feature is intended for corporate identities or to create new corporate identities, brands, and brandable boards on BBS Network, just like in some other social media platforms. It allows well-intentioned users to create boards that can potentially gain corporate identity in the future on BBS Network. I believe this is necessary for the development of BBS Network.
  • Through admin menu, the board owner can grant different permissions to each managerial account.

Edit/added:

Administrative accounts are like gloves that can be used for various tasks. You can use some for electrical work, some for garbage handling, and some for cooking. Of course, this is a metaphor, but it refers to the infinite possibilities of needs and desires that groups, communities, brands, companies, and associations using or wanting to use the BBS Network may have now, in the near future, and in the distant future.

Added on July 14, 2023:

  • The accounts that are currently being used as administrative accounts should be able to be converted into administrative accounts.
  • I'm not entirely sure, but perhaps limiting the membership and activities of administrative accounts to the board they were originally created for and preventing them from joining other boards could resolve the contradictions in this draft. In that case, a method needs to be devised to convert the accounts that are currently being used as administrative accounts into actual administrative accounts. For example, the account metabbs@bbs could be transformed into an administrative account by terminating its membership in other boards. In fact, I would like administrative accounts to be able to join and participate in other boards, but I haven't found a solution for that yet.
