The Terms 'Operator' And 'Censorship-Resistant' As I Understand Them, With Metaphorical Examples

I think 'operator' is one of the least understood areas of the BBS Network. Without a good understanding of this, the term 'censorship-resistant' cannot be well understood either. I don't know if I have understood it correctly myself, but I want to briefly explain what I understand with a metaphorical example. Instead of writing this as a comment on Wilba's (Wilbatilda@bbs's) post, for everyone to see, I am writing it as a new post. This way, if I have understood it correctly and there are no objections or corrections needed from METABBS admins, it might be helpful to anyone confused about the terms 'operator' and 'censorship-resistant.' As far as I understand, the example below wouldn't be too far off to explain this concept. If we think of the BBS Network as a highway system, we can consider the boards as cities and the operators as the governments of countries that include those cities. In this case, the customs gates (border crossings) would be the domain names. For example, right now, we are in the city of METABBS. This city has a mayor (metabbs@bbs) and assistants (moderators). As members (holding citizenship), we can engage in activities such as publishing, intellectual trade, participate in elections (polls and surveys), speak at the podium, respond to speakers on the podium, and earn reputation and BBS Tokens by adhering to the city's rules. If we wish, we can travel to another nearby city through the BBS Network highway system without passing through any customs/border gate (without changing the domain name) and even obtain citizenship there – if the city's government does not object. For example, if we are masochistic enough to accept tasks like speaking on the podium a few times a day and cleaning the toilets of the city hall, we might become citizens of the city of THEXBOARD, governed by the dictator and mayor ...@bbs. The country's government (operator) may choose not to interfere in the free decisions of ...@bbs. However, if he starts verbally abusing or physically harming the city's residents without their consent, things could change because this country (operator) is a democratic country by Western standards. Perhaps, for a bit of fun, we visit GAMTECH every day and/or have obtained membership/citizenship there too. While moving from METABBS to GAMTECH and in both cities, the general rules of the country's government (operator) apply. Most of us use the bbs.market customs gate (domain) when coming to this country. However, there are those who use the customs gate of starwarstheory.com, which is essentially an airport in the THEORY city. After all, without even passing through the bbs.market border gate, you can directly reach cities in this country – not just THEORY but also other cities in this country and maybe even cities in other countries (operators) – from this airport. Let's say there's a country (operator) nearby ruled by fascism. They have paved their internal and external roads using BBS's technology and connected these roads to the international highway system (BBS Network). While some countries (operators) recognize this country (operator) as a friendly nation, others see it as a supporter of terrorism. This is because there's a city (board) called TERROR2023 in that country (operator). Some may argue that this name is just a joke, but currently, the government (operator) of the country hosting METABBS, GAMTECH, and THEXBOARD believes that in that TERROR2023 city (board), events that do not befit humanity are taking place. Therefore, to protect their own citizens and tourists and to avoid being classified as 'countries supporting terrorism' by other countries (operators), they close their own border gate (bbs.market domain) to the country which is ruled by fascism and includes the city TERROR2023. If you are a journalist living in the city of METABBS and want to see and document what is happening in the city of TERROR2023, don't worry. Even though the country (operator) hosting METABBS closes its border gate, you can reach TERROR2023 through border gates from other places such as northbadboard.comnet, southNSFW.netcom, or even through the fascist country's seaside port customs gate, that is, using their own domain (terroristan.comnet) or airport (flyterroria.netcom). If the situation is really bad, and the use of the term 'terror' is not a joke, then it may not be difficult to predict that many countries (operators) around the world will soon close their border gates with that country, despite some operators not participating. The country, which still may be included in the blacklists of many countries (operators), may also be on the blacklists of many DAOs. Especially the country (operator) known as KIDSLAND, which hosts cities (boards) like TELETUBBIES and NICKLEDEON, may have strict rules about which cities (boards) to close the customs gates and cancel flights to, and which cities (boards) in other countries to allow flights to because the tourists (visitors) and citizens (members) of KIDSLAND are all under the age of 18. For their parents to allow them to be in this country, the country's borders may need to be protected, or even completely closed. A country (operator) called Freeland, founded by those who want to express their free ideas without anyone's pressure, might also exist. There could be self-governing (DAO) cities (boards) and countries (operators). Now, let's step out of this metaphorical example and return to the physical world. All of this is still subject to the rules of the local government, the national government, and international law where users are present. BBS is a neutral technology and network, and you still have to comply with the rules of your local government and adhere to international law. Parents must make an effort now and in the future to control the content their children may encounter. Today harmful content can be accessed with a single click, even on Twitter. The boundaries between the Dark Web and the normal web are becoming blurry. While creating an environment resistant to censorship, the BBS Network might also make things difficult for criminals by recording everything on the blockchain. All of these are issues that need to be worked on with the participation of experts in ethics and law. I tried to explain the terms 'operator' and 'censorship-resistant' as I understand them with metaphorical examples. If I'm wrong, please let me know. I hope I haven't been too wrong, and it has been helpful to those who read it, especially those who are confused about these terms.

Subjective and Hybrid Models in EM admission [UPDATED with a part that I forgot to mention]

The issue I see in the current Engagement Mining model and a proposed solution: In my opinion, the core problem lies in EM's practice of excluding potentially high-quality and more engaging boards that may have fewer members than the existing active boards while keeping boards that fail to generate 'real-quality content and interactions' within EM. However, if these higher-quality boards could benefit from EM too, they could also direct the new members they gain toward producing better content. Nevertheless, some boards, due to the era when they gained more from quantity than quality, continue to operate under unequal conditions in competition with new and high-quality boards, given the financial capital and member count they accumulated. In the BBS Network, 'certain boards that were established during the times when profit was derived from a single internet-copied image' maintain a significant competitive edge within EM, just like wealthy kids who live off illegally earned money from their parents and whose content lacks the desired quality for advertisers. Even lowering CPM doesn't prevent boards with the sole purpose and benefit of generating posts to maintain their active EM memberships. This is because board owners and moderators consistently find a flow of individuals who will create such posts. Rather than those who give up producing these posts because they don't receive tips, new users willing to engage in this type of content creation keep coming. And this cycle continues. Similar to employers who hire undocumented immigrant workers. On the other hand, due to the high numerical threshold, boards that could encourage users to create higher quality content and interactions that advertisers would value aren't able to access the EM platform. EM is an opportunity not only may encourage users to produce quality content when it is used better but also may provide board owners the chance to focus more effectively on this endeavor. And this opportunity should also be available for boards that can utilize EM better and perform more useful tasks. Proposed Solution: The following suggestions can be implemented without depriving boards with active memberships within EM but who are not yet able to produce content of sufficient quality of the chance to improve themselves (namely without terminating their EM membership). My suggestion allows the BBS Network team to provide opportunities for boards they believe can create content and interactions that advertisers would value, alongside the existing active boards in EM. My proposal consists of three options: a) Hybrid Model (Combining the current model and subjective model for EM admission) The BBS Network development team selects a few boards - [UPDATED PART - I forgot to mention:] in addition to those who meet the numerical criteria- they believe can compete and thrive in EM. The numerical conditions for EM would apply to these boards after a set period. Boards failing to meet the mathematical conditions within the given timeframe would be removed from EM. The BBS team could leverage artificial intelligence to aid their selection process. Additional note: If boards that the BBS team perceives to be valuable for the Network are not meeting the current numerical conditions, they might naturally lose their share of EM due to decreased activity, so removal from EM might not be necessary. This way, even with minimal earnings from EM, they can uninterruptedly continue producing quality (ad-worthy) content. As their interaction numbers grow again, they would automatically receive their deserved share from EM. The key is ensuring the consistent production of valuable content that advertisers appreciate. b) Subjective Model (Only boards selected subjectively by the BBS team are admitted to EM, and continued EM membership is tied to numerical conditions) This option simplifies the admission process to EM by solely relying on the BBS team's selections. Continuation within EM would depend on numerical conditions. While the hybrid model combines the existing and subjective models for EM admission, the subjective model in this option solely determines EM admission. c) Full Subjective Model (Both EM admission and removal processes are subjectively conducted by the BBS team) In this approach, EM admission would exclusively follow the subjective model (subjective choice by the BBS team), and removal from EM would also be based entirely on subjective decisions (according to the BBS team's subjective choice). -------------- Since the inception of Engagement Mining, if a hybrid or even a full subjective approach had been implemented, more efficient results might have been achieved. Of course, many key features of BBS Network hadn't been developed and implemented then, potentially prioritizing quantity over quality. However, I believe that with the evolving quality structure of BBS Network, which is now well-equipped to form, enhance, and sustain online communities, the time has come for such an approach (subjective model in EM admission) to be applied.

Sorting Tab for Posts with More Visits than Predictions ("Underpredicted") - [Updated the 3rd time]

Sorting Tab for Posts with More Visits than Predictions I think a tab where posts with significantly more visits than predicted are sorted ("Underestimated/Underpredicted" tab) could be quite helpful. - Perhaps making this sorting tab adjustable by the board owner from the admin panel could be beneficial. However, in my opinion, having it as a default and mandatory feature would be more useful.  - There are various ways to calculate sorting. The first thing that comes to my mind is the ratio of visits to predictions (visits/predictions).  - Posts with fewer visits than predictions won't be included in this sorting. - [Updated part]: Alternatively, this feature could reside not within a board, but rather in the user's profile settings. It could be a feature particularly helpful for professional users and board owners, streamlining their tasks. If the setting controlling the activation and deactivation of this feature is left to each user's preference, there would be no need for everyone to view this sorting tab. Simultaneously, when a user activates this feature in their profile settings, they would be able to see this sorting tab ("Underestimated/Underpredicted") across all boards. - [Updated part 2]: When I say "in profile," I'm referring to having that particular setting within the profile preferences. Once users activate this setting, in all the boards they visit, they can see this tab. Of course, this setting could also be applied to the posts on the individual's profile page, but that's a separate matter.  - [Updated part 3]: Or "Underpredicted".

An AI-SDK (SDXL 1.0) that I came across - [for Development Team to have a look at]

I wanted to share a Twitter thread (a series of tweets) with you. It's about "SDXL 1.0". Maybe you've already come across something similar in your work, but when I stumbled upon this, I thought it would be worth passing along, it might be helpful. You can find the link below, along with the website link. It could be interesting to have something like this added to the BBS Network's post-writing area. Of course, the implementation and presentation would be crucial. Just imagine how cool and exciting it would have been if something like this existed on old internet forums. Platforms like Reddit and Facebook probably want to offer such features, but I believe it might be technically more challenging for older sites like Reddit to integrate them. That's where the BBS Network's SDK feature could come into play, enabling such innovations. Eyal also hinted at the possibility of features like real-time translation of video and audio recordings in the speaker's own voice to other languages, as well as the potential for automatic video subtitles on the BBS Network soon. By the way, a few months ago during the Weekly Chat, we discussed AI plugins that could ease moderation tasks. Interestingly, I think recently Facebook has launched something similar, utilizing AI for moderation in pages and groups. When it comes to text, audio, video, and images, the possibilities for creativity seem endless with this kind of tools! For example – users being able to whip up their own profile pictures and board cover images, or even board logos, in just a matter of seconds. Another example, being able to create images within seconds that represent the content, without any copyright issues, to use in posts. More engaging content and worry-free visuals for readers to enjoy. The X (Twitter) threadWebsite (tryleap.ai)

3 short suggestions on 'approval mode'

I don't know how useful or feasible they would be, or how work-effective they are, but I would like to suggest the following three ideas: 1) It should be designated by the board owner in the admin menu that which moderators can delete pending posts for publication. Of course, the board owner should have the authority to delete pending posts. 2) As I mentioned in the first suggestion, the authority to delete pending posts should be given to moderators (one by one) by the board owner through the settings menu, as deemed necessary. Moderators who do not have the permission to delete should either leave unapproved posts in the pending state or hide them, while allowing the post owner to make revisions to the post. Therefore, I agree -partly- with the suggestion titled "Suggestion#2:" in Johan_Arias@bbs's post "🤔Suggestions apply in the moderation tool⚙️🧰🐙🧐👇".                                         "Another suggestion I have is that posts are not deleted when rejected with the new tool and instead posts are 'hidden' and that there is an option to edit a hidden post, since a post could be rejected for having a grammatical error or a small mistake in the post and the user would lose all the work they did on the post because of a small mistake and it really doesn't seem fair to me and it seems like a big failure in the functioning of the new moderation tools." Johan_Arias@bbs 3) Publishers should be able to edit their old posts in 'approval mode'. The edited post should also await approval. When an old post is edited, it could be useful for administrators to be able to see the differences between the old and new version of the post, highlighted in a split view. This view can be divided by a vertical line in the web version and a horizontal line in mobile versions.

Impression length-based Reputation System [with two addenda]

Impression length-based Reputation System The aim of this suggestion is: - to prevent members from accumulating reputation solely by logging in daily without engaging with the content,  - to prevent some members from ranking higher in the reputation hierarchy by daily visiting certain boards without showing any interest in the content,  - to increase members' interest in content,  - to enhance their interactions with the content,  - to improve the efficiency and quality of content curation,  - to increase the monetary value of the content for advertisers,  - to contribute to both the semantic and monetary aspects of the boards. This suggestion consists of three elements: a) Cancelling two of the methods for members to gain reputation. b) Introducing a new method for members to gain reputation. c) Innovations in the creation of impressions. First and foremost, I must mention that this suggestion is based on my assumption that the "reputation points given to members in exchange for their daily visits are intended to provide them with reputation points to use for promoting posts, i.e., curating the content." Of course, another purpose of granting reputation points in exchange for daily visits is to increase the daily visitor count of boards. This suggestion also includes elements aimed at modifying this method. It is evident that one of the purposes of granting reputation points in exchange for daily visits is to encourage members to engage more with the content and advertisements. However, it is debatable to what extent it achieves this goal. Probably, the development team has already considered the ideas in these suggestions. Nevertheless, I would still like to present my suggestions. First, let's recall the current situation: As it is known, members promote posts by using the reputation points they have accumulated. They stake a portion of their reputation points on the promoted post. During this stake period, visits made by registered users to that post result in reputation points being reflected in the reputation account of the members who staked their reputation on that post. If the post receives more visits than the amount staked by the member, or if it receives at least one visit and is promoted by another person, the member increases their reputation points through the promotion. If the conditions mentioned in the previous sentence are not met after the member has made the promotion, they continue to wait at a loss. When members initially join and visit the boards daily, they are granted reputation points to enable them to highlight posts that will receive more attention and be read. Members with higher reputation points rank higher on the member list. This allows other members to interact more with those who make the most meaningful, content-related, and interactive contributions to the board. In short, this is roughly the purpose of the system's development. Suggestions: a) Members do not earn reputation points in exchange for daily visits. This practice is discontinued. Members also do not earn reputation points when they first join. This practice is also discontinued. b) Members earn reputation points based on the number of impressions they generate. In this case, in order to participate in the curation process, members need to open and read the content on the board, watch videos and listen to audio recordings to earn reputation points. In this way, no one can earn reputation points without spending time engaging with the content and contributing to the semantic aspect of the board, as well as supporting the monetary aspect through encountering advertisements. Furthermore, they will have to pay more attention to the quality of the posts they promote. Good posts become more important as they attract more attention and generate more impressions. Because there is no free reputation points anymore. Being ranked higher on the member list becomes something that can only be achieved by those who contribute the most and genuinely to the board. c) The length of a post and its accompanying videos and audio recordings affects the number of impressions that post can generate. For example, if the text, video, or audio recording in a post is 10 times longer than the standard unit length determined by the development team, a member who spends time with that content by reading the text, clicking and watching the video, or listening to the audio recording for up to 10 times the standard unit length will generate 10 impressions and earn an equal number of reputation points. If the post and its content have a length of 20 units (likely a very long text or a relatively long video/audio), and the member is only interested in that content for the duration of 5 units determined by the development team, only 5 impressions will be generated, and the member will earn only 5 reputation points. In this case, both the web and mobile versions need adjustments such as keeping the advertisement section fixed at the top of the page even when the reader scrolls down (possibly reducing its size slightly) and adjusting the number and duration of ads in videos. I'm not sure what ad format would be adopted for audio recordings, but what matters here is the length of the content and the duration of time the member/registered user spends with the content, calculating the impressions accordingly, and allowing members to earn reputation points accordingly. Additionally, those who are not members of the board but are registered users on the BBS Network also generate impressions but, of course, cannot earn reputation points on the board. Addition to c) I re-read what I wrote before posting the article and realized that I may have confused concepts such as impression, visit, and CPM. So, a correction/addition like the following may help maintain the usefulness of these suggestions: As mentioned in point c), the reputation points are generated based on the time spent by the member on the content, limited by the multiple of the content's length set by the development team. In other words, the length of the content determines the upper limit of the reputation points the member can earn based on the time spent on the content. Regardless of how much time the member spends on the content, they cannot earn more reputation points than what the length of the content allows. However, if the member spends less time with the content, even if the content is long, they will earn reputation points equal to the time they spent. I had already explained this in C). Perhaps it is clearer this time. The actual correction/addition is as follows: The technical calculations related to CPM and advertising are still calculated as required by the industry.  The rate that the advertiser pays is still calculated in the conventional manner using the technicalities required by the industry. In summary, implementing these suggestions: -  Puts an end to the efforts and habits of members who collect reputation points without making any meaningful and/or monetary contributions to the board. - Establishes an order in the member list where those who contribute the most to the board in semantic and monetary terms are ranked at the top. - Enables long and rich content to compete with short posts. - Encourages members to engage more with the content. - Ensures longer display of advertisements for advertisers. If the number of ads on post pages is increased in the future, having more ads in a post allows the publisher and the reader/member to have a fairer share in the interaction with those ads. Furthermore, if members try to spend time without contributing semantically to the board just to earn reputation points, they will continue to contribute monetarily to the board by spending more time with visual (image and/or video) ads. In the future, there will likely be systems in mobile applications that determine whether the user's eyes are on the screen or elsewhere. I may have missed, forgotten, or not thoroughly considered certain aspects, and I may have even thought wrongly, misunderstood, or had incorrect knowledge in some parts. Nonetheless, I wanted to present these suggestions to you. I hope this can be helpful. Thank you for your time! *** If I make more additions to this post, I am considering adding them at the end of the post and mentioning it in the post title. Addendum: Addenda 1: The activities of reputation collectors - those who accumulate daily points without reading any posts or engaging in any activities - can even impact the rankings in the reward table. Furthermore, the reputation points earned through daily visits give members the power to promote any post they desire based solely on its title and images, without reading any of the content. It is akin to uninformed investors who muddy the cryptocurrency market by investing solely based on the names and logos of coins and tokens without knowing anything about them. Addenda 2: The reputation list is currently one of the finest features of BBS Network. It creates equal opportunities for everyone. It offers a chance to become popular in a growing social environment. Moreover, it is achieved solely by engaging with the topics you love, are interested in, and already involved with. It is very difficult to deceive or manipulate the system by giving bribes or using money. It is an environment where the rich and the poor can compete on equal grounds in terms of knowledge and skills. Additionally, it allows individuals to showcase their personal differences, evaluate themselves, boast, demonstrate their knowledge and skills, and rise based on merit in a predictable (fair) system. Many of these opportunities are diminishing in both the physical world and traditional social media. It just needs to be further developed with a more accurate measurement.

Managerial Accounts (updated on on July 14, 2023)

Hello! I would like to share a suggestion with you that I noted down a few months ago and have been thinking about from time to time since then. Its name is "Managerial Accounts". In business life, people become managers of certain companies, organizations, or institutions. They occupy that position/chair. They represent the organization and wear its uniform during working hours. In some organizations, managers wear clothes that distinguish them from other employees, such as special badges or colored neck cards. Judges and, in some countries, lawyers also wear robes. However, when these people leave their workplaces and go to a bar to hang out with their close friends in the evening, they take off their uniforms, clothes, badges, and robes that they wear at work and live their private lives. Now they sit on a bar stool, not on the chair of the organization they manage. They have fun at the bar without the limitations of their professional identities. Of course, the lives of popular celebrities are not included in this scenario. However, we are giving an example based on 99% of people. Exceptions do not invalidate the general rule. If people were to wear the specific clothes and symbols of their managerial positions even in their private lives, their personal lives would be greatly restricted. Similarly, their actions during their private lives would affect the organization they manage. Here at BBS Network, we are creating a social media platform that closely resembles real life. And as BBS Network develops, this resemblance increases, and as the resemblance increases, BBS Network evolves. It becomes easier to use and brings more benefits to users. In addition, BBS Network incorporates some useful features that have become traditional in other existing social media platforms. 'Managerial accounts' are one such feature. For example, large companies have multiple managerial accounts. For instance, a company called 'X Firm' may have various social media accounts like 'sales@xfirm,' 'humanresources@xfirm,' 'advertisement@xfirm,' 'advertorial@xfirm,' and so on. This is also a requirement for some organizations. Another issue is that an employee in a managerial position should not represent the position and/or organization after leaving the job. Furthermore, the conflict and animosity that may arise between a former manager and the organization should not negate the contributions the manager made to that organization. For example, when a manager leaves their position, they should not be able to delete, hide, or manipulate (edit) their previous posts and publications on social media. A feature similar to the transfer of the White House's Twitter accounts, "POTUS" (President of the United States) and "FLOTUS" (First Lady of the United States), to the new holders after elections is needed. I have been wishing for such a feature for a long time, and it is not difficult to imagine that groups, organizations, and companies using BBS Network also need such a feature. For this purpose -as I mentioned for the first time in our conversation on Weekly Chat Twitter Space a few months ago- here are some possible features of 'Managerial Accounts': - Managerial accounts are created by the board owner. - Multiple managerial accounts can exist in a board. - Managerial accounts do not generate impressions. This feature is to protect advertisers. - Activities performed by managerial accounts are not counted for "Engagement Mining" and are ignored. This feature is also to prevent the misuse of managerial accounts for "Engagement Mining." - A managerial account is opened for the use of members/moderators determined by the board owner. - A managerial account can be used by multiple members. - A managerial account is also open to simultaneous use by multiple members. - Managerial accounts can join other boards as members due to the communication needs (such as advertising) with other communities. - The system records which user (member) performed each action of a managerial account in the background. This way, the board owner and operator know who is responsible for any errors or potential misconduct. - The profile picture of managerial accounts includes a badge indicating that it is an managerial account, and/or the profile picture is framed in a square, triangle, or other basic geometric shape instead of a circle. I might have forgotten the most important thing: - Managerial accounts can be the owner/creator of a board. In this case, the managerial account that is the owner of the board has the same privileges as the owners of standard boards. A user can create new boards with multiple managerial accounts. The operator knows the identity of the real user who manages/creates this account. This feature is intended for corporate identities or to create new corporate identities, brands, and brandable boards on BBS Network, just like in some other social media platforms. It allows well-intentioned users to create boards that can potentially gain corporate identity in the future on BBS Network. I believe this is necessary for the development of BBS Network. - Through admin menu, the board owner can grant different permissions to each managerial account. Edit/added: Administrative accounts are like gloves that can be used for various tasks. You can use some for electrical work, some for garbage handling, and some for cooking. Of course, this is a metaphor, but it refers to the infinite possibilities of needs and desires that groups, communities, brands, companies, and associations using or wanting to use the BBS Network may have now, in the near future, and in the distant future. Added on July 14, 2023: - The accounts that are currently being used as administrative accounts should be able to be converted into administrative accounts. - I'm not entirely sure, but perhaps limiting the membership and activities of administrative accounts to the board they were originally created for and preventing them from joining other boards could resolve the contradictions in this draft. In that case, a method needs to be devised to convert the accounts that are currently being used as administrative accounts into actual administrative accounts. For example, the account metabbs@bbs could be transformed into an administrative account by terminating its membership in other boards. In fact, I would like administrative accounts to be able to join and participate in other boards, but I haven't found a solution for that yet.
