The aim of this suggestion is:
a) Cancelling two of the methods for members to gain reputation.
b) Introducing a new method for members to gain reputation.
c) Innovations in the creation of impressions.
First and foremost, I must mention that this suggestion is based on my assumption that the "reputation points given to members in exchange for their daily visits are intended to provide them with reputation points to use for promoting posts, i.e., curating the content." Of course, another purpose of granting reputation points in exchange for daily visits is to increase the daily visitor count of boards. This suggestion also includes elements aimed at modifying this method. It is evident that one of the purposes of granting reputation points in exchange for daily visits is to encourage members to engage more with the content and advertisements. However, it is debatable to what extent it achieves this goal.
Probably, the development team has already considered the ideas in these suggestions. Nevertheless, I would still like to present my suggestions.
As it is known, members promote posts by using the reputation points they have accumulated. They stake a portion of their reputation points on the promoted post. During this stake period, visits made by registered users to that post result in reputation points being reflected in the reputation account of the members who staked their reputation on that post. If the post receives more visits than the amount staked by the member, or if it receives at least one visit and is promoted by another person, the member increases their reputation points through the promotion. If the conditions mentioned in the previous sentence are not met after the member has made the promotion, they continue to wait at a loss.
When members initially join and visit the boards daily, they are granted reputation points to enable them to highlight posts that will receive more attention and be read. Members with higher reputation points rank higher on the member list. This allows other members to interact more with those who make the most meaningful, content-related, and interactive contributions to the board. In short, this is roughly the purpose of the system's development.
Members do not earn reputation points in exchange for daily visits. This practice is discontinued. Members also do not earn reputation points when they first join. This practice is also discontinued.
Members earn reputation points based on the number of impressions they generate. In this case, in order to participate in the curation process, members need to open and read the content on the board, watch videos and listen to audio recordings to earn reputation points. In this way, no one can earn reputation points without spending time engaging with the content and contributing to the semantic aspect of the board, as well as supporting the monetary aspect through encountering advertisements. Furthermore, they will have to pay more attention to the quality of the posts they promote. Good posts become more important as they attract more attention and generate more impressions. Because there is no free reputation points anymore. Being ranked higher on the member list becomes something that can only be achieved by those who contribute the most and genuinely to the board.
The length of a post and its accompanying videos and audio recordings affects the number of impressions that post can generate. For example, if the text, video, or audio recording in a post is 10 times longer than the standard unit length determined by the development team, a member who spends time with that content by reading the text, clicking and watching the video, or listening to the audio recording for up to 10 times the standard unit length will generate 10 impressions and earn an equal number of reputation points. If the post and its content have a length of 20 units (likely a very long text or a relatively long video/audio), and the member is only interested in that content for the duration of 5 units determined by the development team, only 5 impressions will be generated, and the member will earn only 5 reputation points. In this case, both the web and mobile versions need adjustments such as keeping the advertisement section fixed at the top of the page even when the reader scrolls down (possibly reducing its size slightly) and adjusting the number and duration of ads in videos. I'm not sure what ad format would be adopted for audio recordings, but what matters here is the length of the content and the duration of time the member/registered user spends with the content, calculating the impressions accordingly, and allowing members to earn reputation points accordingly. Additionally, those who are not members of the board but are registered users on the BBS Network also generate impressions but, of course, cannot earn reputation points on the board.
I re-read what I wrote before posting the article and realized that I may have confused concepts such as impression, visit, and CPM. So, a correction/addition like the following may help maintain the usefulness of these suggestions:
As mentioned in point c), the reputation points are generated based on the time spent by the member on the content, limited by the multiple of the content's length set by the development team. In other words, the length of the content determines the upper limit of the reputation points the member can earn based on the time spent on the content. Regardless of how much time the member spends on the content, they cannot earn more reputation points than what the length of the content allows. However, if the member spends less time with the content, even if the content is long, they will earn reputation points equal to the time they spent. I had already explained this in C). Perhaps it is clearer this time.
The actual correction/addition is as follows: The technical calculations related to CPM and advertising are still calculated as required by the industry. The rate that the advertiser pays is still calculated in the conventional manner using the technicalities required by the industry.
I may have missed, forgotten, or not thoroughly considered certain aspects, and I may have even thought wrongly, misunderstood, or had incorrect knowledge in some parts. Nonetheless, I wanted to present these suggestions to you.
I hope this can be helpful.
Thank you for your time!
*** If I make more additions to this post, I am considering adding them at the end of the post and mentioning it in the post title.
Addenda 1:
The activities of reputation collectors - those who accumulate daily points without reading any posts or engaging in any activities - can even impact the rankings in the reward table. Furthermore, the reputation points earned through daily visits give members the power to promote any post they desire based solely on its title and images, without reading any of the content. It is akin to uninformed investors who muddy the cryptocurrency market by investing solely based on the names and logos of coins and tokens without knowing anything about them.
Addenda 2:
The reputation list is currently one of the finest features of BBS Network. It creates equal opportunities for everyone. It offers a chance to become popular in a growing social environment. Moreover, it is achieved solely by engaging with the topics you love, are interested in, and already involved with. It is very difficult to deceive or manipulate the system by giving bribes or using money. It is an environment where the rich and the poor can compete on equal grounds in terms of knowledge and skills. Additionally, it allows individuals to showcase their personal differences, evaluate themselves, boast, demonstrate their knowledge and skills, and rise based on merit in a predictable (fair) system. Many of these opportunities are diminishing in both the physical world and traditional social media. It just needs to be further developed with a more accurate measurement.
