1.Tipping Partnered publishers:

IMO, it’s not smart business strategy for Owners and Admins to tip Partnered users’ posts. Partnered users’ posts start earning CPM bonuses as soon as they are published regardless of the quality and Owners do not receive a portion of those profits. IMO, the CPM system is the most fair way to reward publishers. It’s based solely on engagement and it continues to reward publishers indefinitely as we know posts on BBS are viewable forever. Tipping partnered users’ posts is a profit loss for the board. Tipping as the main reward for publishing is a profit loss to the publishers.
I do however feel there are certainly times when a particularly standout post is created by a Partner that should be additionally rewarded with a tip. It’s only logical that a super comment tip also acts as a beacon to attract users to a notable post and can be used by Owners and Admins in that way as well.

  2. Tipping non-Partnered publishers:

This is where is see the most benefit from tipping having an effect on non-Partnered users’ publishing motivation. Owners and Admins can now reward non-Partnered publishers  for creating content desired by that board even if that content may be their very first post. This allows new users to become part of the board’s economy from day one by giving them cashable to spend on the board through tips or other means. 😉
It’s logical that the monetary incentive of non-Partnered publishers receiving a cashable tip will urge them to post more regularly, pushing them towards becoming partnered organically. (Personally, I’m of the opinion that Partnership should be eliminated in favor of selecting posts individually to earn CPM bonuses.)
3.Tipping used as a prize:

Many boards already have incentivizing contests with rewards in place. For boards that don’t, tipping can be used to provide a reward for contests such as Post of the Day, Week, Month, or all of the above. Trivia, suggestion, or essay contests could also be possible; whatever type of contest works best for each board’s community…

In conclusion, tipping is a great motivational addition to the BBS system but I think it wont be widely used without non-Partnered users having another way to earn cashable beside receiving tips. I think it’s unreasonable to expect people to give away what they were just given themselves. Board owners have the means to tip and see the motivational benefit of tipping. Most of BBS’ partnered users are driven by the desire to see the platform succeed and for new updates to make a difference in platform usership so they have motivation to use the tipping system. Non-Partnered users however, have no means of earning cashable other than tips, so other than being a genuinely appreciative consumer of content who doesn’t mind giving away the tips they have received there’s no motivation to tip others. Allowing non-partnered users to earn from their posts on day one would give them a way to earn besides tips and give them a means to tip others.
