Can an option be added for Admins and Mods to choose the source of tips?
This may be addressed with the new mods tools coming, but sadly I just discovered, as an Admin, I can only send a tip from the community pool as there’s no option to send one that originates from my earnings. Would it be possible to give Admins/Mods the ability to select the tip source? Now that I think about it, could a way also be devised for users to distinguish an Admin’s “personal” tip from a “community pool” tip? I’d like to be able to leave personal tips for one, and I’d like to be able to do it without people thinking it’s coming from the community funds. 😁 Thanks for your consideration. 🙏

Tipping strategies for board Owners and Admins.
1.Tipping Partnered publishers: IMO, it’s not smart business strategy for Owners and Admins to tip Partnered users’ posts. Partnered users’ posts start earning CPM bonuses as soon as they are published regardless of the quality and Owners do not receive a portion of those profits. IMO, the CPM system is the most fair way to reward publishers. It’s based solely on engagement and it continues to reward publishers indefinitely as we know posts on BBS are viewable forever. Tipping partnered users’ posts is a profit loss for the board. Tipping as the main reward for publishing is a profit loss to the publishers. I do however feel there are certainly times when a particularly standout post is created by a Partner that should be additionally rewarded with a tip. It’s only logical that a super comment tip also acts as a beacon to attract users to a notable post and can be used by Owners and Admins in that way as well. 2. Tipping non-Partnered publishers: This is where is see the most benefit from tipping having an effect on non-Partnered users’ publishing motivation. Owners and Admins can now reward non-Partnered publishers for creating content desired by that board even if that content may be their very first post. This allows new users to become part of the board’s economy from day one by giving them cashable to spend on the board through tips or other means. 😉 It’s logical that the monetary incentive of non-Partnered publishers receiving a cashable tip will urge them to post more regularly, pushing them towards becoming partnered organically. (Personally, I’m of the opinion that Partnership should be eliminated in favor of selecting posts individually to earn CPM bonuses.)3.Tipping used as a prize: Many boards already have incentivizing contests with rewards in place. For boards that don’t, tipping can be used to provide a reward for contests such as Post of the Day, Week, Month, or all of the above. Trivia, suggestion, or essay contests could also be possible; whatever type of contest works best for each board’s community… In conclusion, tipping is a great motivational addition to the BBS system but I think it wont be widely used without non-Partnered users having another way to earn cashable beside receiving tips. I think it’s unreasonable to expect people to give away what they were just given themselves. Board owners have the means to tip and see the motivational benefit of tipping. Most of BBS’ partnered users are driven by the desire to see the platform succeed and for new updates to make a difference in platform usership so they have motivation to use the tipping system. Non-Partnered users however, have no means of earning cashable other than tips, so other than being a genuinely appreciative consumer of content who doesn’t mind giving away the tips they have received there’s no motivation to tip others. Allowing non-partnered users to earn from their posts on day one would give them a way to earn besides tips and give them a means to tip others.

Could the psychology of likes help to increase all aspects of platform use?
Psychological studies show that notifications from receiving 👍 on posts and comments triggers a release of dopamine in our brains which literally makes us feel good and crave more. Sadly, I think everyone would agree that platform use is at an all time low which is, of course, reflective in the amount of 👍 being left. Given the amount of 👍 notifications has decreased, its only logical to speculate that the good feelings that made people use and visit the platform en mass decreased as well. I see it as a bit of a catch 22… if there are less 👍 and comments overall, what’s the motivation for people to publish? If there’s redundant, low quality, or very little new content what’s the motivation for people to react, let alone visit the platform? Could it be possible to take advantage of the physiological effect of likes and use it to incentivize all aspects of platform use by allowing unregistered and unjoined to simply 👍 or 👎 registered users’ comments and posts? Could the simple increase in 👍 numbers show all users, registered and non, that there’s actually more people viewing their posts and comments than they realize and incentivize them to publish and react more. Could the increased 👍 numbers incentivize potential new registrants to join as well? To the best of my knowledge 👍👎 are not tied to earnings and are not a large part of site scores (if any part at all) so I can’t see a detriment to this suggestion if it increases platform use at all. As always, let me know what you think in the comments and thanks for taking the time to read this. 🙏

An idea for a new post buying system and how it could bring new users to BBS…. and keep them here.
Scrolling through the latest posts I noticed Priest001’s post about earning through post promotion and that Eyal thought it was a good idea… I’ve actually been kicking around the same idea for quite some time and have a system worked out to use post buying as another way to incentivize both publishers and non-publishers alike. It all starts with allowing each board’s Owner/Admins to select each individual post that they feel is an example of that board’s desired content and should be rewarded with CPM bonuses. This would have a two-fold benefit… The first benefit would be that any registered user can start to earn cashable income on their very first day on BBS without the hurdle of becoming Partnered. As we all know the path to Partnership is not easy, let alone understood by all users on all boards when they first get to BBS. IMO, if an any registered user makes a post that is an example of the desired content on that particular board they should earn from that post regardless of if they have been Partnered or not. Allowing users to earn cashable from day one should incentivize users to both publish quality, desired content and return to the boards to use/spend that income on tips and buying posts. The second benefit of being able to select each individual post that can earn CPM bonuses is each board can expand the types of content the board allows to include content that isn’t necessarily about the board topic but about the board community and it’s members. For example, on StarWarsTheory we award and Partner users that create what we call “Original Content” posts. These would be posts where the content is entirely created by the publisher. These would include but aren’t limited to theories/speculation on Star Wars content, original works of Star Wars fiction stories, content/game reviews, and more. Since the Flair system was implemented we have expanded the board’s allowed content to include what we call non-OC content which aren’t considered for Parnership or rewarded but enrich the community nonetheless and offer a lower bar so new users can post while learning what the board’s desired content is. This would include Facebook type posts or questions for the community (we call Community posts), any linked videos or articles without added content from the BBS publisher, or any appreciation posts like fan art. The way I envision post buying is dependent on individual posts being selected to earn CPM bonuses. A post would not be open to be purchased unless it has been selected to earn CPM based publishing bonuses. Meaning, the post must be quality, original content desired by that board and selected by its Owner/Admins to earn CPM bonuses before users could purchase it with BBS or cashable. If is done with cashable income instead of BBS tokens any user that wants to buy posts must first publish quality content in that particular board to earn the funds to do it. I also think it would be possible to eliminate Partnership entirely by selecting which posts to reward instead of which user.🤔 This would also remove any obligation users may currently feel to post regularly to maintain their partnered status. Most of us have seen how post quality suffers when quantity is the goal and once partnered, users earn no matter what content the publish. If folks are against eliminating Partnership then partnered users could still benefit from having all their posts automatically selected to earn CPM bonuses (and to be purchased) , as it is now, and be the only users able to cash out their earnings. The post buying could be a secondary economy on the boards and another use for the BBS token both increasing its use and the value of posts. IMO, this economy should be solely between publisher and users with no percentage going to the board owner. I understand that there’s still a lot of earnings tied up in old posts so to avoid that in the future a limit on the time posts are available to purchase could be implemented. For example, after 7 days (or length of time determined by board owner) the post closes for purchase (but not for CPM bonuses) and gets cashed out to the final purchaser and publisher so no funds are ever tied up in posts. Speaking of funds tied up… bringing back post buying might free some of the cashable locked up in idle profiles when those users see they can use it to buy posts again. 🤔 Without a doubt people were the most excited to use BBS when post buying was a part of the system. I dare say this could reinvigorate the platform and give people a reason to be active everyday again. I’m happy to answer any questions (as I’m probably leaving something out) or debate with anyone about the merits of this suggestion. Thanks for taking the time to read this.BTW, this is not a suggestion to replace the CPM system… just to open posts to purchasing in addition to it. 😉

Can you guys please fix the organization of comments in threads!? 🙏
It’s really not important (or very helpful) if comments are organized by descending number of reactions, especially if threads can’t be followed by the actual commenters or future visitors to the post. If users select to organize the comments by “New”, it becomes slightly more comprehendible but the way that is organized is odd as well. Thread starting comments are still on top, while all the replies below it are reversed, so the first response is on the opposite end of the comment thread, farthest away from the starter comment. I also notice that the first reply to a comment no longer automatically tags the commenter. While that’s not a major issue for those that are familiar with the platform, and new changes to it, users unfamiliar will undoubtedly be confused when all other replies feature a tag of the commenter being replied to. With the trouble the platform is having bringing in new users, and keeping the ones we have, I would think the readability and comprehension of content on the platform would be of the utmost priority. That being said, I don’t think we’ve seen much concern for this as there have been multiple posts and no solution has been mentioned. Sadly, it wasn’t addressed in the weekly chat either. Thanks for your time.

What made Bulletin boards of the 90’s successful…. and without any monetary incentives?
If you’ve read Eyal’s mission statement you know that the bulletin boards of the 1990’s are the main inspiration behind the BBS platform. (If you haven’t, I suggest you go read it after this post. 😉) These bulletin boards offered none of the features that BBS does above providing a place for people of like interests to find each other. So what made these boards successful without any monetary incentives to use them? I think it’s worth examining why these bulletin boards came about, and who actually used them, to understand why they were successful and how BBS differs from them. First of all, the amount people that actually used PC’s back then for anything more than word processing was relegated to a very small percentage of the population. Back then we called people “geeks” if they had an interest in computers and those geeks were predominantly white males who could actually afford a computer. That was a vast departure from society of today where the norm is nearly every person has a computer (phone) in their pockets and use it daily to interact with others. Those computer people, being a unique group themselves, had interests that were often times not mainstream, and therefore didn’t have anyone in their personal lives to discuss them with, so they created bulletin boards on the internet to find each other. The board topics they created were extremely specific, I’m in my 40’s and I remember entire bulletin boards for one specific computer game like Might and Magic or Doom. Or boards dedicated to a specific model of car, or engine alone, not the entire brand. (Some actually still exist today like NASIOC which is a bulletin board specifically for people that tune Subaru’s.) The point is, the need for these boards existed before the boards themselves did. The obscurity of the topics alone attracted users because it was literally the only place to connect with others that had the same interest. What we have mostly on BBS are boards created with ease of publishing and profit in mind, not genuine interest. We have topics that are so wide open and mainstream that simple Google search results become the majority of the content on these boards and in turn engagement becomes forced. In my humble opinion, BBS’ success will rely heavily on the uniqueness and obscurity of each board and the genuinely interested users that will attract, not with topics that cast a wide net hoping to pick up everyone. It will be the thoughts and opinions of people that have a genuine interest or insight into these topics that’s sets BBS apart from other social sites, not generic content gleaned from the internet with a few added words to get around content rules. Thank you for your time. 🙏

We need to retain the chronological order of comments in threads for basic comprehension. 🤷♂️
It seems there was an additional unspoken feature implemented with the new update….. Comments in threads no longer stay in chronological order, they become ordered depending on the number of reactions they receive. It also appears to work proactively as all comments in old posts are now organized this way. To put it quite simply this can make a long comment thread indecipherable to any user after just a handful of reactions. I urge you to look at the comment threads of this post as an example. This was a multiple day, back and forth between myself and the publisher with a few others chiming in. It’s very in depth and goes into specifics so there’s no need to try to understand the comments, I ask you to simply attempt to try to read it as the conversation played out. It’s very difficult to say the least without checking the time a comment was left and how many users are tagged in the reply. I think that this was perhaps a very considerate idea to make it easier for Owners and Admins to spot comments with high reactions 🙏, but I dare say it may have more negative effect than good if it makes linear comment threads unreadable. Thanks for your consideration. 🙏

A caution for the proposed Owner/Admin comment tipping and “super comments”….
I was listening to the latest Weekly Chat and had immediate concerns with the proposed comment tipping from Owners and how that will change the nature of commenting on this platform and possibly kill the current organic nature of comment threads. If users are incentivized by the possibility of receiving a BBS tip for starting a large comment thread, every user that realizes this (and is on the platform to profit) will stop replying to comments in an effort to start their own Super comment. I foresee users just tagging the comment they are replying to, but not actually replying to it, so they can start a thread of their own to receive a tip. We already have examples we can look to of users manipulating the platform, or misusing platform features, for profit in this manner. The most notable was the Channel system. Users learned that they would receive a portion of all profits from posts that were assigned to their created Channels. What was the result of this? A completely unusable Channel system because users would create redundant channels just so they could profit. The number of channels grew too large to be useful for organization and the system became defunct. Another example is users posting redundant posts. StarWarsTheory.com is a board that has an IP as the board topic. As it would be expected, when there’s news or new content, the site becomes more active. Prior to having moderators users would literally post the same news article or trailer video, 5 or 6 deep, and stacked one on top of the other. This clearly says many users have little care for anything other than what’s in their best interest, not the board’s or the platform’s. Personally, I believe BBS tips from Owners/admins will greatly affect comment threads in the same way. Users will see the opportunity to receive bonuses, but only if their comment starts the thread. This will incentivize users to start their own threads instead of replying to other’s comments greatly effecting the organic nature of comment threads across the platform. I will suggest my solution again…. Reward unique commenters with a small percentage of the CPM based ad bonus the publisher receives and they contributed to. If those comments happen to be in a comment thread, reward the commenter that created the thread each time unique comments in the thread contribute to a bonus. This should keep the comment threads organic as all unique commenters will be rewarded if they are in a thread or not. I think if incentivizing users monetarily is a a concern for the platform, this monetary incentive for users to start their own comment thread over replying to another’s comment (that will damage organic comment threads), should be as well. And to address those that will say rewarding every unique comment will promote low quality or disingenuous commenting I think it’s worth noting that advertisers only care about making sure they only pay for unique views of their ads. The quality of comments is solely a concern for BBS. 🤔 There will always be users trying to game the system when there’s money up for grabs and mitigation is always going to be the key. A suggestion for the moderation log…. While I have your attention I’d like to suggest an additional feature be added to the moderation log. It’s great that reasons for mod actions can now be selected and a record of all actions available for viewing, but I do think it could have been taken one step farther…. It would be very helpful to board Admins if a notification could be auto-generated and sent to the user stating the action and the reason. 🙏 Thanks you for your time. 🙏

What prolific publishers lost with the new update….
I have to thank Eyal and the Devs for the new update, the Channel system had far more flaws than it did benefits. Personal and off topic Channels set bad examples for new publishers about what a board’s desired content happened to be. Once the number of Channels on our board grew greater than 10-20, people stopped assigning their posts to content specific Channels and created Channels for their own content. Which leads me to point of this post. With the removal of the Channel system, prolific publishers lost the only way they had to organize their varied content. They also lost the navigation path for other users to find it without having to scroll through their entire collection of work. Could the Channel system be implemented through, and specific to, each user’s profile? Prolific publishers could create Channels within their profile and organize their created content using the very same Channel system we had for the post feed. I have no idea if this is possible, but I know (from complaints) that this issue effects what I would think are the most valued users of BBS. Many thanks for your time. 🙏

A humble mechanic’s examination, diagnosis, and repair of the BBS system.
I completely understand that without a ☑️ or a 🌠 on my avatar some folks may pass this post over so I feel it is necessary, albeit possibly pretentious, for me to put my BBS ‘credentials’ up front. These are just facts… I have used BBS everyday since I joined in May of 2021. I was one of the first whitelisted publishers and was made a board moderator back in December when the rest of the BBS boards were just starting life. The owner of the board has never been involved, it’s has always been run by the moderators (now the Admins) and we have always maintained “active” Engagement Mining status since it was implemented. As the very first board, I’d like to think we are THE model BBS board though our community has endured much and struggles to stay engaged currently. All that being said, I would humbly say that I’ve got a better than average understanding of all the phases of BBS and how users reacted to those changes. I’m also a mechanic, I have decades of experience continually learning complex systems, their component parts, and how they work in conjunction to a degree of competency that facilitates being able to diagnose and repair them. A good mechanic can simplify a complex system so that even a layman can understand it…. Let’s examine the component parts of the system and what they need to provide for BBS to be successful. As I see it, BBS is a system that is made of 3 integral parts:the Platform, the advertisers, and the users. In order for BBS to work properly, all 3 parts must function as intended and work in conjunction. The Platform needs… …. Advertisers that are willing to compete with other advertisers for the limited ad space available. ‼️How can the Platform attract advertisers? In order to attract advertisers the Platform needs a large group of users. ……Users to both create quality posts, which provide the needed content and the advertising space it contains, and those who will only view, and engage with others in, them. In its current iteration, the Platform is unable to bring in, and keep, the necessary amount of users needed to attract advertisers. ‼️How can the Platform attract, and keep, new and current users? If the basic offerings of the platform are not enough to bring in users, it needs to provide other motivation. The Advertisers need… …… A large, diverse group of users to see their advertisements and create the ad space for them. ‼️ How can advertisers help foster a large, diverse group of users? By providing cashable bonuses to publishers. ……. A Platform that brings in, and keeps, those users. And one that accurately, and fairly, calculates impressions and how bonuses are paid out based on them. ‼️How can Advertisers help the Platform accurately calculate payouts based on impressions? Being an entirely new type of Platform, it’s BBS’ responsibility to perfect this system. Which is why there have been so many changes to the earnings system. The Users need… If the Platform does not fill an existing need for what it offers users must want to use the platform. ‼️ What do the users need? Again, if the basic features of the platform aren’t enough to bring In new users, and keep existing ones, there must be motivation to use the Platform. Diagnosis The EM program is the current Advertiser, which is providing publishing revenue for the Platform. The Advertising is operating as it should. The Users should have no obligation to use the Platform if it is not filling a need, and if the basic features don’t make them want to use it, it’s the Platform’s responsibility to motivate the users if it wants to survive. The Platform is responsible for attracting new users by sufficiently motivating publishers financially to produce such quality content that it alone will bring in other users like newspapers and periodicals have for generations, or by motivating all users equally by rewarding some aspect of engagement. Solution 1. Base cashable ad bonuses for publishers on comments. Motivate and attract users by rewarding comments with cashable bonuses. If BBS is focused on engagement and discussion, and advertisers want an accurate count of unique impressions, publisher bonuses should be based on the number of unique commenters a post attracts. For example, a publisher bonus would be awarded for every “X” number of unique users that comment and the commenters would receive a small portion (5%) of the bonus they helped award the publisher. The publisher gets a few cents less than they currently do, and “X” number of users get a cashable bonus for their engagement. One comment per post, per user.2. Get rid of post Promotion for EM approved boards and bring back post buying but with cashable earnings. Users had the most fun using the boards when they could show support and generate cashable revenue by buying posts. It gave non-publishers a reason to frequent the boards and was huge motivation for users. If my first suggestion of rewarding comments was implemented all users, Partnered or not, could earn cashable bonuses and use it on the board to purchase posts and tip publishers and commenters. Even if posts only change hands for very small amounts, it would still be real earnings and would provide much more motivation for users than the Promotion system. Boards not approved for EM can continue to use the Reputation and Promotion systems. Non-Partnered users can also earn cashable bonuses for engagement and use them on the board for post buying and tips but can not remove earnings from the site until Partnered. This way all users on EM approved boards can engage with real money which will motivate users and increase engagement. This would certainly motivate users to engage and to make strides to becoming Partnered by publishing, so they can eventually withdraw the cashable earnings they have accrued. In this sytem the earnings from engagement will motivate them to use the system more as it did in the early days of BBS. 3. Tiered advertising This suggestion is putting the cart in front of the horse but I think it’s a solid one so I’ll include it. As it stands the highest CPM bid from advertisers gets awarded the banner space on ALL posts of a board. I don’t know what is planned for the future of the Ad system but I suggest a tier system for advertising. Instead of one advertiser with the highest CPM set occupying all the banner space, allow multiple advertisers to occupy the banner space and pay out publisher bonuses simultaneously. Do this by creating a tier system… newly published posts will start at a low CPM and as they accumulate impressions will rise through a tier system where a different CPMs (and advertisers) occupy each level. Instead of being outbid for the top spot, advertisers can set the CPM they feel comfortable with and be sorted into the tier system based on it. This way many advertisers can be seen and pay out publisher bonuses on the same board simultaneously. More advertisers = more revenue for publishers which = more motivation for users to publish. 4. Hide all posts’ engagement stats until the post has been opened and the view timer satisfied. With the focus of BBS being engagement and publishing, the system should rely on the merits of the curated posts to entice users to open them out of sheer interest not because of the number of likes, comments, and promotions they see. This is why I feel engagement features (likes, comments, promotions) should all be hidden until the user chooses to open the post and stay long enough to satisfy the view timer. At which time, the engagement features will appear and stay open for that user, on that post, so they can engage. Once the engagement features are opened from inside a post, the stats will then be visible to that particular user on the main page (like they are displayed now). I don’t know how difficult it would be to implement this, or if it’s even possible, but I think it would go a long way in helping cut down on disingenuous engagement (at least engagement from the main page) and help BBS to stand apart (at least visually) from other similar sites. This brings me to BBS’ identity issue…. Correct me if I’m wrong but BBS is having an identity crisis. It doesn’t know how to market itself or who to market itself to. I view this platform as one that relies completely on the quality of the curated content to set itself apart from other sites. For without those quality standards the boards become simply copy/pasted content, which we have seen happen, so it’s imperative that content quality remains an utmost priority. That being said, newspapers and periodicals have relied solely on the quality of their curated content to keep and attract readers. BBS should be no different and should appear and be marketed as such, but with the added benefit of engagement, in my opinion. I sincerely hope this makes sense and comes off like I intended… I only have a desire to see this platform succeed and I hope there’s something in here that can be of some use. Thanks for taking the time to read this. 🙏

An idea for potential advertisers. Selling the BBS site template to news outlets…
So, I live in the US and the majority of local television news stations and reporters use Facebook as their social media pages in conjunction with an actual website for the news station information and stories. Seems to me like BBS could do both of these things on one site. In my eyes, the BBS site template is perfectly designed to be the model platform for news outlets (minus the earning system)… It has the ability to support all the news articles and videos stations would want to post daily, the channel system is already in place to organize content by category and by reporter, reporters and anchors can have their own profiles (like Facebook), and the inter-connectivity of BBS means news stories could be linked between affiliates. Imagine connections between stories or crimes, form different locals, made by users because of the interconnectivity of BBS and it’s engagement features. There are hundreds and hundreds of local news affiliates under each major network like ABC, CBS, and NBC in the US alone. That’s not even considering newspapers, periodicals, and cable news outlets that may want consolidated web sites and web 3 interconnectivity. I think if BBS could get a single major network to pick up the system/site template, and implement it on affiliates, it could provide all the advertising revenue that BBS is looking for to keep the user created system going indefinitely. Also, wouldn’t it go a long way in differentiating BBS from the social media sites it resembles by having BBS (and not Facebook) deliver news outlets’ content and be their engagement site? I’m interested to hear what people think of this idea…

Does anyone else have concerns for post quality with the release of BBS in App form?
Those that understand the goals of BBS understand that quality content needs to be the driving force that brings users to BBS and what keeps them coming back repeatedly. That being said, is anyone else nervous about what posts are going to look like when they are composed on mobile devices?

Some questions and suggestions about advertising…..
Correct me if I’m wrong, but currently BBS’ EM advertising campaign and any users running ad campaigns supply the cashable bonuses to publishers. The advertiser with the highest CPM set gets their ad displayed in the banner of every post until someone starts a campaign with, or raises an existing one to, a higher CPM. My question is….. When outside advertisers decide to invest in BBS will only the advertiser with the highest CPM set have their ad displayed in every post’s banner as it is now? Is there consideration for having multiple advertisers paying out bonuses simultaneously? The new impression limit update has me thinking about what advertisers would really be willing to pay for. Seems to me, unless there are multiple advertisers constantly upping the CPM of their campaigns throughout a 24 hour period to hold the ad banners (suggesting a limited group of users are seeing ads from multiple advertisers daily), an advertiser occupying the banner for an entire 24 hour period would only care about the number of unique users that visit the board and open one post during that period. If each of those users visits just one post, they’ve seen the ad for the day and the advertiser can’t be expected to want to pay them to see it any more for that day. That would also mean that after the unique visit has been logged, and a single post viewed, engagement means little to the advertiser. Suppose there were tiers to the advertising system to allow for multiple advertisers to have ads running on the same board simultaneously. Say, the amount of engagement a post generates allows it to climb multiple tiers. Each tier has a specific CPM and and each tier would allow for a different advertiser. As a post’s engagement numbers increase it moves to a higher tier with a higher CPM and different advertiser/ad. In this system multiple advertisers could pay for the activity of a limited number of daily users and feel like they were reaching enough viewers for the amount paid. (Of course you’d need a large user base to attract multiple advertisers…) It would also allow for more advertisers to run campaigns simultaneously on the same board greatly increasing publisher bonuses and incentivizing board usage. Hope this isn’t a waste of anyone’s time. 🙏

Why educating new users BEFORE they hit the boards is desperately needed on BBS….
I can say without a doubt that the majority of new users join a BBS board with zero idea how the boards work, why BBS is different from the other Social Media sites it resembles, and what the overall goals of BBS are. In my experience, new users use the “see what sticks” method of posting, which is usually low effort content (or a copy of the lowest effort content allowed) and the individual board Admins/mods are charged with educating the new users. In my community that education is usually met with resistance at the very least. In most cases it leads to site drama before the users finally understand BBS goals, or the ban of said users. Many of those banned users return with alternate accounts and cause site drama crying that the content rules are too strict or that their “freedom of speech” is being infringed. We have had endless issues, with countless users since January due to what I believe is a deficiency in educating new users before they hit the boards. New users should absolutely have an idea of what BBS is and what it’s goals are prior to joining a board and prior to any activity on the boards. Currently the system is heavily reliant upon the site Admins/mods to educate the new users which, if we are talking about the scalability of BBS, will be unmanageably difficult when the app is released and usership increases as expected. BTW, If you’d all like to see a community where the users don’t care about cryptocurrency or making profit visit StarWarsTheory.com. The majority of the users there would like to treat the site like a fan site and hang out (which is a problem unto itself). Disingenuous activity is nearly non-existent.

My idea for cashable bonuses tied to Unique Comments only and cashable bonuses for commenters.
If the whole point of BBS is engagement, shouldn’t the cashable bonuses be tied to unique comments? I had an idea…. Say the cashable publisher bonuses are for every 5 unique comments left and the 5 contributing commenters get a small fraction of the cashable bonus. This would allow non publishers to receive cashable bonuses and give them motivation to engage in the comment sections without finding a different source of revenue. I wouldn’t have any issue giving up 0.05 for every 1.00 or 1.05 bonus if it meant my posts got more unique impressions in total. I’m not sure there will ever be a way to eliminate disingenuous commenting if there’s a reward for Unique comments, but the same was true for post buying bonuses and I really feel we need something monetary to get people more engaged. Commenters who earn cashable bonuses, but haven’t been Partnered due to not publishing, could tip publishers and other commenters with it, or start ad campaigns. Basically put their cashable income back into the site but not take it out until Partnered. That way the revenue stays on the site and improves it. I think it would also be possible to get rid of Reputation and bring back post buying but with cashable earnings. Thoughts?

Why “following” should be a two-way street… a simple solution.
While everyone seems happy with the follow feature for the most part, there are clearly some issues people have with the newly implemented feature. I propose a simple solution that I believe would alleviate the concerns some folks have. In my opinion, the follow options should be available for the followed, not just the followers. As publishing is the the main focus of BBS, IMO notifications of post publishing in boards followers are members of should be the only option that can’t be switched off but all other options should be made available for the followed as well as the followers. If we look at the current version and change the context of how the follow features might be used for harassment, the “stalkers” have all the options while the “stalked” have none. Or change those terms to “trolls” and “trolled”…. Not to mention, with the ability to get notifications from boards followers aren’t members of, drama can now follow users to different boards. While I think we all understand the positive benefits of the follow system, but without consideration for the privacy of the followed, it inherently comes with potential downsides. As BBS is trying to become something other than Facebook or Redddit, shouldn’t the follow system “follow” suit? What are your thoughts folks?

Can the BBS impression system function better….? Some thoughts I’ve had lately.
I have a question for the community and site devs… Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to all BBS sites to eliminate regular impressions by only allowing impressions, promotion, and likes to be left only while the posts are open? I think this might have a few different positive effects on the way users leave feedback. If a user can’t like or sponsor without opening the post first, that user has to make a clear decision on that post’s content. “Am I interested enough to open it and leave feedback?” This could possibly instantly boost the unique impressions for all BBS and eliminate the practice of promoting and liking without contributing to unique impressions. This may also encourage a step up in published content quality by encouraging longer posts, and users to open short posts they may not have before. If the entirety of a post is visible without opening it, what incentive is there for users to open the post and leave a unique impression? Probably only if they feel the need to leave a comment. If feedback or promotion could only be done if the post is opened, posts of this nature may receive more unique impressions, which would boost the site’s score. Thanks for looking, and let me know what you think in the comments.

Protecting the value of the BBS token…. The Great reset and earning structure changes.
Hello everyone! I’m a community moderator over on the StarWarsTheory.com BBS and these are my thoughts on the Reset… If we consider the basics of market supply and demand we know that when there’s a surplus of product on the market, there’s less demand, and the product loses value. This logic needs to be applied to the fledgling BBS token. I think the Great Reset, and the restructuring of cashable bonuses, are an attempt to preserve the BBS value by keeping large amounts of it from being dumped on the market by users that were whitelisted only because they met a minimum amount of cashable currency, not because they contributed quality content that earned the site cashable advertising revenue. I believe if we are patient and look at BBS as a community, and not just a way to earn, it can survive these dark times and return to something profitable when the market rebounds. Also keep in mind that Board owners profit also comes from ad revenue and in the form of BBS tokens, so we are all in the same boat. Some bigger issues we need to think about are how to keep users publishing and engaged on BBS with the earning structure as it currently is and how to bring off site advertising to BBS. I’m sure the BBS devs and site moderation would be open to any ideas the community might have to encourage interaction in these darker days. Thanks for looking and let me know what you think in the comments.
