Psychological studies show that notifications from receiving ๐ on posts and comments triggers a release of dopamine in our brains which literally makes us feel good and crave more. Sadly, I think everyone would agree that platform use is at an all time low which is, of course, reflective in the amount of ๐ being left. Given the amount of ๐ notifications has decreased, its only logical to speculate that the good feelings that made people use and visit the platform en mass decreased as well.
I see it as a bit of a catch 22โฆ if there are less ๐ and comments overall, whatโs the motivation for people to publish? If thereโs redundant, low quality, or very little new content whatโs the motivation for people to react, let alone visit the platform?
Could it be possible to take advantage of the physiological effect of likes and use it to incentivize all aspects of platform use by allowing unregistered and unjoined to simply ๐ or ๐ registered usersโ comments and posts? Could the simple increase in ๐ numbers show all users, registered and non, that thereโs actually more people viewing their posts and comments than they realize and incentivize them to publish and react more. Could the increased ๐ numbers incentivize potential new registrants to join as well?
To the best of my knowledge ๐๐ are not tied to earnings and are not a large part of site scores (if any part at all) so I canโt see a detriment to this suggestion if it increases platform use at all.
As always, let me know what you think in the comments and thanks for taking the time to read this. ๐
