In my opinion, the core problem lies in EM's practice of excluding potentially high-quality and more engaging boards that may have fewer members than the existing active boards while keeping boards that fail to generate 'real-quality content and interactions' within EM. However, if these higher-quality boards could benefit from EM too, they could also direct the new members they gain toward producing better content. Nevertheless, some boards, due to the era when they gained more from quantity than quality, continue to operate under unequal conditions in competition with new and high-quality boards, given the financial capital and member count they accumulated.
In the BBS Network, 'certain boards that were established during the times when profit was derived from a single internet-copied image' maintain a significant competitive edge within EM, just like wealthy kids who live off illegally earned money from their parents and whose content lacks the desired quality for advertisers. Even lowering CPM doesn't prevent boards with the sole purpose and benefit of generating posts to maintain their active EM memberships. This is because board owners and moderators consistently find a flow of individuals who will create such posts. Rather than those who give up producing these posts because they don't receive tips, new users willing to engage in this type of content creation keep coming. And this cycle continues. Similar to employers who hire undocumented immigrant workers.
On the other hand, due to the high numerical threshold, boards that could encourage users to create higher quality content and interactions that advertisers would value aren't able to access the EM platform. EM is an opportunity not only may encourage users to produce quality content when it is used better but also may provide board owners the chance to focus more effectively on this endeavor. And this opportunity should also be available for boards that can utilize EM better and perform more useful tasks.
The following suggestions can be implemented without depriving boards with active memberships within EM but who are not yet able to produce content of sufficient quality of the chance to improve themselves (namely without terminating their EM membership).
My suggestion allows the BBS Network team to provide opportunities for boards they believe can create content and interactions that advertisers would value, alongside the existing active boards in EM. My proposal consists of three options:
The BBS Network development team selects a few boards - [UPDATED PART - I forgot to mention:] in addition to those who meet the numerical criteria- they believe can compete and thrive in EM. The numerical conditions for EM would apply to these boards after a set period. Boards failing to meet the mathematical conditions within the given timeframe would be removed from EM. The BBS team could leverage artificial intelligence to aid their selection process.
Additional note: If boards that the BBS team perceives to be valuable for the Network are not meeting the current numerical conditions, they might naturally lose their share of EM due to decreased activity, so removal from EM might not be necessary. This way, even with minimal earnings from EM, they can uninterruptedly continue producing quality (ad-worthy) content. As their interaction numbers grow again, they would automatically receive their deserved share from EM. The key is ensuring the consistent production of valuable content that advertisers appreciate.
This option simplifies the admission process to EM by solely relying on the BBS team's selections. Continuation within EM would depend on numerical conditions. While the hybrid model combines the existing and subjective models for EM admission, the subjective model in this option solely determines EM admission.
In this approach, EM admission would exclusively follow the subjective model (subjective choice by the BBS team), and removal from EM would also be based entirely on subjective decisions (according to the BBS team's subjective choice).
--------------
Since the inception of Engagement Mining, if a hybrid or even a full subjective approach had been implemented, more efficient results might have been achieved. Of course, many key features of BBS Network hadn't been developed and implemented then, potentially prioritizing quantity over quality. However, I believe that with the evolving quality structure of BBS Network, which is now well-equipped to form, enhance, and sustain online communities, the time has come for such an approach (subjective model in EM admission) to be applied.
