

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Aug. 4 (KNN) – An 8-year-old girl was found dead inside a hotel room bathtub in Bakersfield Saturday evening.
Josiah Valenzuela / KNNJust after 5:30 p.m., the Bakersfield Police Department responded to the La Quinta Inn located in the 3200 block of Riverside Drive for reports of a possible medical emergency, according to police. The reporting party called officials, saying she had received secondhand information that an 8-year-old girl may be dead inside a bathtub.
Police responded and entered the room, then forced entry into the bathroom after getting no response. The child was found dead in the bathtub with substantial trauma to her body, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Officials learned the girl had been abandoned. After further investigation, two adults were taken into custody. Ray Mata Jr., 31, of Bakersfield, and Graciela Bustamonte, 27, of Delano, were identified as suspects and booked into jail on charges of murder, torture, and multiple counts of child abuse.
