LANCASTER, CA, Oct. 31 (KNN) — A driver suspected of driving under the influence was detained by citizens at the scene of a crash that destroyed a power pole and damaged residential property in the city of Lancaster.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters responded to the intersection of 55th Street West and Avenue L-8 around noon Monday for a reported fight in progress.

Upon arrival, deputies found several citizens wrestling with the driver of a vehicle that had crashed into a neighboring front yard.

Witnesses stated the male Hispanic driver attempted to flee the scene after colliding with a power pole.

They were able to detain the man until deputies arrived and placed him into custody.

California Highway Patrol officers also responded to the location and took control of the scene. It was later learned that the driver has a history of DUI’s and is currently on supervised probation for DUI.

No one was injured during this incident, however, there were at least two near-misses reported. Alcohol is suspected to have played a roll in this traffic collision as well.
