SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES, July 30 (KNN) – A pregnant passenger inside a vehicle that plunged down steep canyon terrain late Tuesday night was rescued by first responders, then rushed to a local hospital.

A couple was driving along a canyon road in the Angeles National Forest shortly before midnight when the driver lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Kagel Truck Trail and Little Tujunga Canyon Road. The car careened approximately 500 feet down the canyon, injuring the passenger, a pregnant woman in her 30s.

Multiple emergency resources were dispatched, including urban search and rescue teams. The driver managed to crawl up the steep mountainside and flagged down a passing vehicle for assistance.

Rescuers faced challenges as air units were unable to rappel down due to live electrical wires near the crash site. Instead, they rappelled down the canyon and hoisted a gurney with the injured woman. She was later transferred by helicopter, located further down the canyon, to a hospital.

While the extent of the woman’s injuries is unclear, she was conscious and breathing at the time of her rescue.

The male driver sustained minor injuries and was picked up by family members.
