PSG Could Recall Yoram Zague as Copenhagen Looks to Cut Loan Short cover image

Copenhagen eyes an early exit for Yoram Zague, potentially triggering a swift return to Paris for the young defender this winter.

Paris Saint-Germain, which loaned out five players last summer, could get one back sooner than expected, as FC Copenhagen is reportedly already not counting on Yoram Zague, according to local press.

With little real prospect of playing time at PSG, young right-back Zague, 19, was loaned to FC Copenhagen on June 24.

The club is a 16-time champion of Denmark (a record) and qualified for the Champions League's league phase (the Danes are 24th after six matchdays). A loan that seemed interesting on paper for the young Parisian, it included an option to buy, the amount of which was not disclosed.

But despite playing 15 matches since the start of the season, including five in the Champions League, scoring two goals and providing one assist (against Villarreal in the Champions League), Yoram Zague has not convinced the Danish club, which is disappointing in fifth place in its league (but still has the same coach).

In addition to becoming a substitute even after his direct competitor, the Mexican Rodrigo Huescas, was seriously injured in October, Zague could even be sent back to Paris as early as this winter.

According to the Danish media outlet Bold, Copenhagen's sporting director believes Zague does not meet the required level and is looking to terminate his loan. The Danish club is even closer to recruiting a new right-back in the form of Kenay Myrie, a 19-year-old Costa Rican international.

Zague's return to Paris, however, remains dependent on an agreement between the two clubs, which does not yet exist. If his return to PSG is confirmed, Zague should not, in principle, stay in Paris and would leave again just as quickly, provided he finds a new interesting challenge. There are two weeks left in the transfer window to clarify this situation.

The record of PSG's loaned players:

  • Yoram Zague at Copenhagen: 15 matches, 511 minutes, 2 goals, 1 assist
  • Randal Kolo Muani at Tottenham: 21 matches, 1135 minutes, 2 goals, 3 assists
  • Gabriel Moscardo at Braga: 20 matches, 697 minutes, 1 goal, 1 assist
  • Renato Sanches at Panathinaikos: 10 matches, 383 minutes, 0 goals, 1 assist
  • Naoufel El Hannach at Montpellier: 17 matches, 1091 minutes, 0 goals, 0 assists.
