The recent loss to Paris FC has reignited the debate around Paris Saint-Germain's winter transfer window. Supposed to be very quiet in terms of arrivals, it could be more active than expected. According to L'Equipe, PSG will not make any extravagant moves but is targeting a young player whose name has not yet leaked.
In line with its minimalist summer transfer window, which saw only three players recruited – Lucas Chevalier, Ilya Zabarnyi, and Renato Marin – PSG does not plan to overhaul its squad during the winter window, except for opportunities involving players it has been pursuing.
PSG has reiterated this stance in recent weeks, and after two weeks of the transfer window, no player has arrived, and no one has left either.
The labored performances of recent weeks could prompt PSG to adjust its approach before Feb. 2, when the transfer market closes.
With the imminent returns of Achraf Hakimi, Ibrahim Mbaye, and several injured players, that does not seem to be the prevailing trend. In its edition today, L'Equipe reveals that PSG has noted the name of Enzo Fernández, the Argentine midfielder for Chelsea, but more with a view to the future than for this winter.
A few days ago, the sports daily suggested that PSG could bring forward its summer transfer plans by signing a player initially targeted for next summer in January.
The name of Porto's Portuguese right-back, Alberto Costa, 22, was notably mentioned, but this lead has since cooled due to Porto's desire to keep him this winter. According to RMC, Costa is not currently a concrete target for PSG and will not come this winter.
This Thursday, L'Équipe asserts that a young player is being targeted by PSG for this winter, but his name has not yet been leaked.
It could be a Portuguese U17 world champion like Anisio Cabral or Rafael Quintas, two Benfica youths recently linked with PSG.
The young Brazilian defensive midfielder, Luis Pacheco (Palmeiras), has also been linked to PSG recently, but more with a view to this summer.
Regardless of the young player targeted, PSG will not make any extravagant moves and will only recruit him if an opportunity opens up.
