Present in Dubai on Sunday to receive the sports director of the year award at the Globe Soccer Awards, PSG's sporting director, Luis Campos, made a small transfer market confession to Portuguese journalists.
Luis Campos is a happy man. Promoted to sports advisor for the QSI group last May, just before PSG's Champions League final victory in Munich, the Portuguese sporting director has received several awards at the end of 2025, including a Globe Soccer Award on Sunday in Dubai.
On the sidelines of this ceremony, which was also attended by Nasser Al-Khelaifi (voted best president), Ousmane Dembele (best player), Vitinha (best midfielder) and Desire Doue (revelation), Luis Campos confided in Portuguese media in the mixed zone and was notably questioned about the strong Portuguese contingent at PSG and his pride in having recruited Vitinha and Joao Neves for Paris.
"I am proud of all my signings. On this issue, nationality should not come into play. They are at PSG because they have talent, not because they are Portuguese. They could be from other countries. I have to think about PSG's objectives. In Portugal, there continue to be many good players," confided Luis Campos.
A Portuguese journalist then asked him if he already had a few Portuguese U-17 world champions in his sights, one month after Portugal's victory at the U-17 World Cup held in Qatar: "I have many, some I would already like to have, but I cannot tell you their names," Luis Campos answered with a smile. "I was delighted, I already knew them, our system had already identified them, but I had the chance to see them live. Portugal is and will be well in the future. It will continue to produce high-quality players."
Among the young Portuguese players who stood out during the last U-17 World Cup, one can notably cite young attacking midfielder Mateus Mide, voted the best player of the tournament thanks to his 4 goals and 2 assists. Aged 17, this young talent, represented by Jorge Mendes, plays for FC Porto, where he has not yet made his first-team debut. A versatile, diminutive player with a resemblance to Vitinha, he has a technical profile very compatible with PSG on paper, and has only a year and a half left on his contract.
Young center-back Mauro Furtado (17, left-footed) finished as the third-best player of the tournament and plays for the SL Benfica reserve team. Striker Anisio Cabral (17, Benfica U19) finished as the tournament's second-top scorer with 7 goals, including the winning goal in the final against Austria. Names to watch in the coming months, even though none of these players have been linked to PSG so far.
