Texas shortstop is reportedly drawing attention from Boston Red Sox, with a potential wild card in Atlanta Braves.

Sit down, Texas Rangers fans and followers. You might need some smelling salts, too.

OK, so there's been some chatter at the Winter Meetings in Orlando, Fla., around potentially shipping out shortstop Corey Seager.

Reports indicate that the Boston Red Sox checked in on Seager's availability. In the meantime, one media outlet is suggesting that the Atlanta Braves look at acquiring the shortstop to help them shore up that position.

Let's start with the Red Sox. Tim Healey and Alex Spicer of The Boston Globe, according to MLB Trade Rumors, are reporting that Boston has had some talks with the Rangers and Seager.

In 2025, Seager hit .271 with 21 home runs and 61 RBIs. He spent some time on the injured list last season, too, and did his best to make up for his absences from the Texas lineup. Seager had 445 plate appearances in 2025, which were the fewest since his 2021 season, the last one he played with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Seager signed a massive 10-year, $325 million deal with Texas before the 2022 season started. But Texas, even with first-year manager Skip Schumaker on board, might be looking to tighten up their payroll situation. The team already let Adolís Garcia and Jonah Heim go.

    Now, what about the Braves?

ESPN host Paul Hembekides and ESPN baseball insider Buster Posey were discussing Winter Meetings possibilities on Tuesday. In discussing what Atlanta might look to do with its lack of production at shortstop, Hembekides suggested that the Braves look toward the Lone Star State for help.

"The Atlanta Braves should call the Texas Rangers and make a full-throated effort to trade for Corey Seager, who has, over the last three years, the sixth-best batting line in baseball with a plus-25 defensive runs saved mark, playing shortstop," Hembekides said.

Olney said that he's heard the Rangers are "playing possum" in how they're talking about reducing their payroll. "It's a bluff," Olney said.

Take all of what Hembekides and Olney said with a grain of salt.

But where there's smoke, is there fire? Seager is a fan favorite at Globe Life Field. Rangers fans would be incredulous if the organization shipped out Seager at this time.

But the Rangers brass, from president of baseball operations Chris Young to Schumaker and others, are in Orlando right now. If any type of deal was to be finalized, then the right people to talk with are there.

So, let's see what happens on the Seager front in the next few days.
