New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson gets honest regarding team's recent slump

The New York Knicks are one of the most polarizing teams in the NBA. After making the Eastern Conference Finals last season and losing to the Indiana Pacers, it seemed as though Tom Thibodeau had this group trending in the right direction. However, the front office saw it differently, and opted to part ways.

Being one of the biggest franchises in North American sports has its perks, but it also comes with a lot of pressure. Having arguably the most talented roster in the Eastern Conference, the Knicks now wanted more, bringing in Mike Brown to hopefully get them over the edge and into the NBA Finals.

Knicks Hit Rough Patch

The Knicks started the season hot, going 19-7 before it all started falling apart, as they sat at 25-18 after their loss on January 19th to the Dallas Mavericks. Going from being regarded as one of the top teams in the NBA to a disaster, the Knicks made sure to respond.

They'd get back on track with a blowout victory over the Brooklyn Nets, but solidified things with a road victory against the Philadelphia 76ers. It may just be two wins, but it's a whole lot better than the situation they were in prior. After the win, Knicks star guard Jalen Brunson kept it honest with where they're at.

"I mean, it's great. It's good for us to continue to work and strive to be better. Honestly, we had a slump, and now we just got to work our way through it, it happened, now we just gotta keep on climbing," Brunson said.

While the Knicks may decide to get involved in the trade market and bring in some pieces to round out their rotation, the reality is that they have one of the best starting lineups in the NBA in terms of star power.

With Brunson leading the way and a strong supporting cast of Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart, they are a tough team to beat when all five of them are just playing at their average. However, they still need to see that.

Looking ahead for the Knicks, they'll face the Sacramento Kings at home on Tuesday after a two-day break, looking to take care of them in the same fashion they did to the Nets. They'll turn around and face the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, another test similar to the one against Philadelphia.

If the Knicks can pull through with wins in each of their next two contests, they'll start looking like the team again that can win out in the East this year.
