Some of the best bronc riders in the world put on a show in Fort Pierre, South Dakota!
Some of rodeo’s most recognizable saddle bronc riders dueled it out at the Casey Tibbs Match of Champions Xtreme Broncs over the weekend. What makes this event different from a typical PRCA rodeo is that it only features saddle bronc riders – 30 of the best, to be exact.
And what a showing this event was! Fresh off his big win at Music City Rodeo, Shorty Garrett took the win in the first round with 90 points on Harper & Morgan Rodeo Co's Resistols Black. Paired with a second-place win in the final round, he took home over $9,000. Garrett is making a strong showing so far this year – currently sitting ninth in the world standings – and as he seeks his second NFR qualification, he has no intention of slowing down.
Then came the main event: the final round, where the top 8 cowboys from the first round come back with a clean slate. To no one’s surprise, Sage Newman continued his hot streak with an 89-point ride on Korkow Rodeo's Me Mojo to secure the win.
With this major payday added to his 2026 resume, Newman continues to build momentum at the perfect time of year. In the last month alone, he’s won over $33,000, further cementing his reputation as one of the sport’s most consistent bronc riders. He’s qualified for five consecutive NFRs from 2021-2025, and while the illustrious gold buckle has eluded him in years past, he’s positioning himself as a serious world champion contender in 2026.
