On Wendesday Premier Boxing Champions officially announced the undercard for their May 2nd PPV headlined by "Zurdo" Ramirez and David Benavidez and WBA super middleweight champ Armando Resendiz defends in the co-feature.
Wednesday afternoon Premier Boxing Champions confirmed the undercard for their "Cinco de Mayo Weekend" pay per view in Las Vegas featuring the unified cruiserweight title battle between Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez and David Benavidez.
Headlining in the co-feature, WBA super middleweight champ Armando Reséndiz will defend his title against former world title challenger at 168 lb., Jaime Munguía. The event takes place Saturday, May 2nd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be broadcast as a "PBC on Prime Video" PPV.
Reséndiz looks to solidify his place among the top fighters in the 168-pound division. At just 27 years old, he's 16-2 and already owns a notable victory over former champion Caleb Plant, whom he defeated in a major upset to capture interim WBA belt before being elevated to full champion status, when former undisputed champ Terence Crawford retired and vacated the belts.
Reséndiz has demonstrated both power and resilience throughout his career. After an early setback in 2021, he rebounded impressively, including a stoppage win over former unified champion Jarrett Hurd and a recent TKO victory over Fernando Paliza.
Resendiz said in the PBC announcement of the undercard,
“I’m very happy to be stepping into the ring with a great fighter like Jaime Munguia, who’s been competing at this level for a long time,” said Reséndiz. “For me, this is a big challenge and a huge motivation. These are the kinds of fights I’ve always dreamed about – facing the best names in the sport and proving that I belong at this level.”
Now, he faces one of the toughest challenges of his career in Munguía. The 29-year-old former world champion at 154 lb. has built a reputation as one of boxing’s most entertaining fighters, with an aggressive style and a willingness to engage. Munguía first gained global attention in 2018 when he stopped Sadam Ali to win the WBO world title at junior middleweight a belt he defended five times.
Since then, he has successfully moved up in weight, compiling strong wins at middleweight before stepping into the super middleweight division. Munguía’s recent resume includes a Fight of the Year candidate against Sergiy Derevyanchenko in 2023 and a high-profile title challenge, where he lost a decision against future hall of famer Canelo Alvarez in 2024. Although he fell short in that bout, he remains a dangerous and determined contender.
After a shocking one punch KO defeat in his hometown of Tiajuana to Frenchman Bruno Sarace in December 2024, he avenged the loss by out-boxing Sarace over 12 rounds in their rematch last May demonstrating his ability to adapt and bounce back. Munguia is 45-2, 35 KOs and hungry to get a portion of the title at super middleweight.
“I’m very excited to be back, especially to fight for a world title against a fellow Mexican,” said Munguía. “I’m truly grateful to my team, and everyone who made this fight possible. We’re ready to come out victorious on this great night for Mexico!”
The card is being built around a compelling theme of "Mexico vs. Mexico" Fans can expect intense, action-packed bouts as rising contenders and established stars face off in matchups fueled by national pride and competitive fire.
Also, on the undercard veteran Oscar Duarte, who lost out on a title shot in February when Richardson Hitchins got ill on the afternoon his IBF junior welterweight defense, will now meet fellow Mexican contender Angel Fierro in a 10-round contender bout.
Duarte, 30-2-1, 23 KOs, rides a four-fight into this battle and said in the announcement,
“I’m very happy and motivated for this fight on May 2 in Las Vegas,” said Duarte. “This is a great event that falls on a very meaningful date for all Mexicans, which makes it even more special to me. I can’t wait to face another Mexican warrior who’s already proven his talent and courage in the ring.
When two Mexicans step into the ring, people know it’s gonna be a great fight. We’re both going to give it everything we have and I’m sure it will be a war that fans will truly enjoy. I want to thank my whole team for including me on this great card on such an important date for all Mexicans.”
Fiero is 23-4-2 with a loss to 140 lb. champ Isacc "Pitbull" Cruz in a title challenge in early 2025.
The Zurdo-Benavidez card should have plenty of action for fight fans the first weekend of May.
