Tuesday saw British based Boxxer Promotions become the latest entity to partner with the DAZN global streaming service to televise their fights. Their non-exclusive deal will begin with the Troy Williamson-Callum Simpson super middleweight rematch in August.
On Tuesday, Boxxer Promotions announced a new mult-year broadcast deal with the now online home of boxing, DAZN streaming and they'll have an intriguing super middleweight rematch kickoff their new relationship in August.
The British based promoter is joining the likes of English competitors- Matchroom Boxing and Queensberry Promotions, but also, DAZN has newly agreed to deals with Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank Boxing in the U.S.
From the Boxxer release to the public,
"DAZN, the global home of boxing, has today confirmed a deal with UK boxing promoter BOXXER, which will see the promotion deliver major fight nights on the platform in the coming months, including a premium Pay–Per–View event scheduled for later this year.
The first event will be the highly anticipated rematch between Troy Williamson and Callum Simpson on Saturday, August 8 at the First Direct Bank Arena in Leeds. The bout follows their first meeting in December which saw Troy Williamson flooring Simpson four times in the tenth round before forcing a stoppage to secure a TKO victory, winning the British, Commonwealth and European super–middleweight titles in the process."
Boxxer has struggled to find a regular schedule and audience both in the U.K. and in the USA. They have been recently aligned with the famed BBC for over the air coverage and also, previously had a U.S. broadcast deal to simulcast their fights on the Peacock app. However, that deal evaporated over a year ago.
Boxxer CEO Ben Shalom had more in the statement,
“We’re delighted to be partnering with DAZN, the global home of boxing, to showcase this event to a worldwide audience," Shalom said. "Leeds will provide an incredible atmosphere on August 8, and we’re excited to build on this momentum with more major events on DAZN, including a huge BOXXER Pay-Per-View event later this year. Troy Williamson vs Callum Simpson II is one of British boxing’s most eagerly anticipated rematches.
"Williamson tore up the script and sent shockwaves through the super-middleweight division when he knocked out Simpson in front of his home fans in December. Now, Simpson is out for revenge and has the opportunity to put things right and prove he belongs at world level.”
The 34 year old Williamson, 22-4-1, 16 KOs, pulled off the shocker over the previously unbeaten 29 year old Simpson, 18-1, and took the British and Commonwealth 168 lb. titles in the process.
There had been momentum for Simpson to potentially get a world title shot in 2026, but that was derailed by the veteran Williamson at the end of last year.
As for Williamson, he said Tuesday in the announcement,
“It’s about time they got themselves ready. And, believe me, they have made a big mistake by activating this rematch. This fight cannot come soon enough. Callum Simpson: I’ve beaten you once, and on August 8, I will beat you again.”
Meanwhile, Callum Simpson said,
“I can’t wait for August 8. Leeds is going to be bouncing. Troy had his night, but I’m coming to take back what’s mine. I’m fitter, sharper and more determinedthan ever. He’s done a lot of talking since the first fight, but now he’s got to back it up. I’m ready to settle the score and remind people who Callum Simpson is.”
