The return of the "Gypsy King," Tyson Fury, (not that it was really in doubt) is confirmed.
On Tuesday morning, Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority and President of the Saudi Boxing Federation, announced that the two time heavyweight champ Fury is back in April in a main event from The Ring at a site yet to be announced.
Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) ending his latest, brief "retirement" will face the bruising Russian fringe contender Arslanbek Makhmudov (21-2, 19 KOs).
The bout is set for Saturday, April 11, and it was announced that it will stream live on Netflix globally to its 325+ million subscribers at no additional cost.
Further, this landmark boxing main event represents a major milestone as this will be Netflix’s first-ever live broadcast originating from the United Kingdom.
This fight marks Fury’s highly anticipated return to his home turf, nearly four years after his last appearance in a British ring. That's when he destroyed countryman Derrick Chisora in defense of his WBC crown.
Also, The Ring announced it will lead the promotion for this heavyweight fight with the specific venue and a star-studded undercard to be announced in the coming weeks.
The release had these quotes from Alashikh and the fighters,
Alashikh- "We are happy that Tyson decided to come out of retirement for what should be an exciting heavyweight clash against Makhmudov."
Tyson Fury added: “Excited to be back. Heart’s always been and always will be in boxing. Someone go tell the king that the ace is back!”
Arslanbek Makhmudov also said: “I am thrilled about the opportunity. I’m coming to deliver a War. Tyson Fury has been a big champion. I will be more ready than ever to leave with a massive W."
The 37 year old Fury has not competed since dropping a second straight decision to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in their December 2024 rematch in Saudi Arabia. Fury is still mostly remembered for his two dominations of former WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder, stopping the American by knockout in February 2020 and again in October 2021, both in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Makhmudov boosted his credentials as a potential comeback opponent for Fury after scoring an impressive decision win over David Allen in Britain last October, combining activity with an imposing physical presence.
It is believed that Fury would be next matched with former unified heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua later in 2026, but Joshua is still recovering for injuries sustained in late December in a fatal car crash in Nigeria where two of his friends and team members were killed. Joshua was back seat passenger who was hospitalized for a couple days after the wreck.
That bout would be a massive one for fight fans in the U.K., as it's looked at a long overdue match-up of arguably the biggest names in British boxing ever.
