AJ has been much derided for seeking advice from multiple sources. But has he found the perfect blend of wisdom for the Fury fight?
Tyson Fury has taken to social media to rant over Joshua's claim that he is being advised by Peter Fury, the Gypsy King's own uncle. Fury dismissed the story as "the biggest BS I've ever seen" but went on to say that only a snake would do such a thing. It sounds to me that he doesn't know if it's true or not. Revealingly, Peter Fury hasn't denied the story. Not so far, at least.
Peter has been estranged from his brother John, and nephew Tyson for several years now. If Peter really is advising Joshua, it will deepen the family feud. But perhaps Peter doesn't care. He is, after all, a highly-respected trainer, and will pride himself on not letting personal issues cloud his professional judgement.
Once upon a time, Peter trained Tyson Fury, and guided him to perhaps his most famous victory - a points win over Vladimir Klitschko in Germany in 2015. Fury was a heavy underdog, but his constant movement and feinting unsettled the Ukrainian and made him hesitant to throw his punches. It wasn't exciting to watch, but it was the perfect strategy, and uncle Peter deserves his share of the credit for it.
More recently, Peter again demonstrated his talent as a coach by taking a kickboxer with only one boxing win on his record, Rico Verhoeven, and giving him the tools to completely baffle Oleksandr Usyk.
Usyk is considered one of the most intelligent boxers of all time, but he simply couldn't find any rhythm or timing against the herky-jerky Dutchman. Rico was leading comfortably, before being controversially stopped after a knockdown in the 11th round.
But while Peter Fury may be advising AJ, he won't be in his corner on December 11th. It seems that position will be taken by Ben Davison, who also knows Fury extremely well, having trained him for his first fight against Deontay Wilder.
Many pundits are saying Ben is all wrong for AJ because he was the man in the corner for his disastrous showing against Daniel Dubois. There are even those who say that Ben's real allegiance will always be to Fury. I think Davison will always do his best for whoever hires him.
And Davison is one of the best technical coaches out there. He is a genius when it comes to analysing an opponent's weaknesses and finding the right method to exploit them.
But I believe there are better coaches around when it comes to instilling discipline and focus. AJ simply can't afford to switch off in the way he did against Dubois.
With that in mind, I hope he keeps Iegor Golub from Team Usyk in his corner. The Ukrainians have proved that they can stop AJ unravelling when the going gets hard.
Could AJ have a dream team of Davison and Golub in his corner at the Principality Stadium? Now that would be truly wild.
