Hamzah Sheeraz faces Alem Begic for the vacant WBO super middleweight title May 23 at the Pyramids of Giza on DAZN PPV.
At the iconic Pyramids of Giza on May 23, rising British star Hamzah Sheeraz will face undefeated contender Alem Begic for the vacant WBO super middleweight world title. The highly anticipated clash will feature on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Rico Verhoeven and will stream live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.
Sheeraz enters the bout with an unbeaten professional record of (22-0-1, 18KOs) The 25-year-old last fought in 2025 when he stopped Edgar Berlanga in the fifth round during his debut at 168 pounds. That dominant victory immediately positioned Sheeraz among the division’s elite and earned him the opportunity to fight for his first world championship.
Begic, meanwhile, also arrives undefeated with a record of (29-0-1, 23 KOs). Since drawing with Tiran Metz earlier in his career, Begic has won seven consecutive fights. His recent victories over David Kerkmann and Mahdi Safdari have helped build momentum heading into the biggest fight of his career.
Ahead of the showdown, Sheeraz’s trainer, former world champion Andy Lee, expressed confidence in his fighter’s future at super middleweight. Speaking to The Ring, Lee said he believes Sheeraz has the tools to dominate the 168-pound division for years to come.
“He’s ready for them all,” Lee said. “If everything goes to plan, he’ll become unified and eventually undisputed champion within the next couple of years.”
Despite the long-term ambitions, Lee stressed that the team is fully focused on Begic and understands the danger posed by an undefeated challenger with a major opportunity in front of him.
Lee also praised Sheeraz’s mentality and preparation, saying the British contender approaches every fight with the same focus and discipline regardless of the opponent. He added that competing in Egypt, with the Pyramids serving as the backdrop, will create a memorable atmosphere for the event.
This fight has tremendous implications moving forward. If Sheeraz beats Begic he could be in a great position to write his own checks. Could a bout against the great Canelo Alvarez then be on the horizon? Well the result in Giza will tell that story.
The “Glory in Giza” card will also feature notable fights including Shakhram Giyasov vs. Jack Catterall and Frank Sanchez vs. Richard Torrez Jr..
