The upcoming clash between social media/internet star turned boxer Jake Paul and current WBA junior welterweight champ, Gervonta “Tank” Davis, has been set to headline a Most Valuable Promotions event on November 14 in Miami. Well, the card may still go ahead as planned. but now, without Davis.
On Saturday afternoon, Paul's "Most Valuable Promotions" released a statement in response to the latest domestic violence allegations against Davis from last week. It reads,
"Most Valuable Promotions immediately initiated an investigation upon learning of the civil lawsuit filed against Gervonta Davis in Miami-Dade County on October 30th, 2025.
At this time, we are gathering information and awaiting the details to ensure ny decision we make is thoroughly vetted. We unequivocally conden any form of violence and are committed to handling this matter with diligence and respect for all involved.
We will make determination on next stes once we've completed our reveiew and consulted with the appropriate parties. Until then, we will not be commenting further."
According to a report from Sports Illustrated, the fight is in serious jeopardy following Davis’s latest run-in with the law. The WBA champ is facing multiple charges in a civil suit, including domestic violence and kidnapping from an incident alleged to have happened on October 27th at a South Florida nightclub, thus, casting major doubt on his ability to compete. The accuser filed the lawsuit on Thursday of last week.
This isn’t the first time Davis has faced legal troubles; he was previously arrested on a domestic battery charge in July, but ultimately authorities in Dade County chose to not proceed with the case. Further, Davis has a history of incidents and arrests outside the ring dating back a decade.
Davis’s recent form inside the ropes hasn’t been without controversy either. His March 1 bout against Lamont Roach Jr. ended in a majority draw, though many fans and analysts believed Roach deserved the win — especially after Davis appeared to take a knee mid-fight without repercussion of a knockdown being called. A proposed rematch between the two fighters was later shelved, when Davis pivoted to the blockbuster exhibition with Paul.
Now, that match-up may never materialize.
SI boxing insider Chris Mannix reported via Twitter/X Friday that Team Paul has reached out to popular California fighter Ryan Garcia, as a potential replacement. And, early talks suggest the November 14th date could shift to December, giving both camps more time to prepare and start a separate promotion. Sources indicate Garcia isn’t the only fighter being considered, as the broadcaster Netflix reportedly wants a major name to maintain the event’s high-profile appeal.
The MVP card is supposed to have four legitimate world title bouts that are also in lmbo:
Alycia Baumgardner vs Leila Beaudoin, 12 rounds, for Baumgardner’s WBO/IBF/WBA women’s super featherweight title
Gary Antuanne Russell vs Andy Hiraoka, 12 rounds, for Russell’s WBA super lightweight title
Cherneka Johnson vs Amanda Galle, 10 rounds, for Johnson’s women’s undisputed bantamweight title
and, Yokasta Valle vs Yadira Bustillos, 10 rounds, for Valle’s WBC women’s strawweight title
With less than two weeks remaining before the scheduled card and the main event bout, Paul vs. Davis, seemingly doomed to be changed, it remains unclear what will happen?
Then, again, it's boxing and you always have to expect the unexpected.
