We already knew that Saturday night December 6 would be a championship-packed night with Mexican star and former world champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz taking on reigning WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Lamont Roach for the Interim WBC Super Lightweight Title. Now, Erislandy Lara and Janibek Alimkhanuly will be battling for middleweight supremacy in the co-main event of the loaded PBC Pay-Per-View card streaming on Prime Video from the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, TX.
The middleweight division takes the big stage with the WBA Champion Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs) facing WBO and IBF Champion Janibek Alimkhanuly (17-0, 12 KOs) in a scheduled 12-rounder.
Lara, the Cuban-born veteran known for his slick southpaw style, has looked rejuvenated since moving up to 160 pounds. He enters the ring off a dominant stoppage of Danny Garcia last September and carries knockout victories over Gary "Spike" O’Sullivan and Michael Zerafa. “I’ve faced the best throughout my career, and this is no different,” Lara said. “On December 6, I will become unified middleweight champion of the world and take one step closer toward the Hall of Fame,” Lara said in the confirmation announcement of the bout.
Alimkhanuly, a 2016 Olympian from Kazakhstan, brings an undefeated record and an ever-growing reputation as one of boxing’s most feared punchers. The 32-year-old unified the WBO and IBF titles in 2023 and most recently scored a TKO victory in April in his home country. “My goal is to unify four belts and make my name a part of history,” Alimkhanuly said. “Lara agreed to the fight, and now the big moment is here.”
Another intriguing matchup for this PPV sees WBC Featherweight Champion Stephen Fulton Jr. (23-1, 8 KOs) moving up in weight to challenge WBC Super Featherweight Champion O’Shaquie Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) in a 130-pound title fight.
Fulton, from Philadelphia, is aiming to become a three-division world champion after reclaiming the featherweight title in a rematch win over Brandon Figueroa earlier this year. “The fans should expect a great fight,” said Fulton. “I will win and dominate this fight.”
Foster, a native of Orange, Texas, is determined to defend his home turf. “The 130-pound division runs through me,” said Foster. “Respect to Stephen Fulton for stepping up, but he’ll find out real soon that he should have stayed at featherweight.”
Also announced and opening the pay-per-view, rising Mexican star Jesus “Mono” Ramos Jr. (23-1, 19 KOs) takes on Shane Mosley, Jr. (22-4, 12 KOs) for the Interim WBC Middleweight Title. Ramos rides a three-fight knockout streak, while Mosley enters fresh off a career-defining win over former champion Daniel Jacobs.
“There’s a new date but the same mission,” said Ramos. “I’m going to end this little winning streak that Mosley Jr. has been on.”
Promoted by TGB Promotions, in association with MP Promotions, ProBox Promotions, and Box Starz, the December 6 card promises to be one of end of the year’s most explosive events.
