Sergio Mora of DAZN thinks that Zayas can use his footwork to really challenge Boots Ennis on Saturday. Boots is coming into this fight in Brooklyn with supreme confidence.
One of the most intriguing fights of the summer takes place on June 27 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn when undefeated champions Xander Zayas and Jaron “Boots” Ennis meet in a high-stakes super welterweight unification bout.Match
The main event, promoted by Matchroom Boxing in association with Top Rank, will see Zayas put his WBO and WBA titles on the line against Ennis, who is attempting to become a world champion in a second weight division. The card will stream live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.
Sergio Mora of DAZN spoke with TJ Rives on the Fight Freaks Unite Podcast and gave his thoughts on what Zayas would have to do against Boots Ennis to make this a fight,
"I think Zayas has quicker feet than Boots, believe it or not. Boots is flat footed, Boots will roll with shots right in front of you, and the reason he punches so hard with his counters is 'cause he doesn't step back so much. So Zayas actually has pretty good footwork you know., he's a Puerto Rican, he has power and he has footwork. So if he can come in with the right game-plan to maybe steal some rounds, push some rounds make it close early and start boxing on the back foot later and make Boots come to you, then Zayas may have something."

As fight night approaches, Ennis has made it clear that he believes Zayas is stepping into unfamiliar territory.
Speaking with Ariel Helwani, the Philadelphia native expressed supreme confidence in his abilities and suggested that while he has studied Zayas extensively, the Puerto Rican champion has never encountered a fighter with his complete skill set.
“There’s so many fighters that fight like him in this boxing game,” Ennis said. “I’ve seen him many times. He’s never seen anybody like me. I’m different, and he’s going to see that firsthand.”
The matchup pits two of boxing’s brightest undefeated stars against one another. Zayas enters the contest with a perfect 23-0 record and has steadily climbed the ranks under the Top Rank banner. The 22-year-old captured the WBO super welterweight title with a victory over Jorge Garcia Perez before adding the WBA belt following a hard-fought split-decision win against Abass Baraou.
Despite Zayas’ impressive rise, Ennis believes his versatility will prove to be the deciding factor when the two fighters finally meet in the ring.
“I can do everything,” Ennis said. “I can box. I can bang, pressure fight, switch stances, give you speed, give you power. I can be slick when I want to.”
The confidence is understandable given Ennis’ recent success. After dominating the welterweight division and unifying titles with a victory over Eimantas Stanionis, Ennis moved up to 154 pounds looking for new challenges. His transition to the higher weight class was emphatic, as he blasted out Uisma Lima in just one round to claim the interim WBA super welterweight title.
Now carrying a record of 35-0 with 31 knockouts, Ennis views the showdown with Zayas as an opportunity to prove he belongs among the elite regardless of weight class.
His final message ahead of the fight was direct and unmistakable.
“There are really levels to this game, and I’m going to show him.”
While Ennis brings experience and devastating punching power, Zayas will enter the ring as the reigning champion and one of boxing’s fastest-rising young stars. The clash of undefeated records, world titles, and contrasting styles has elevated the contest into one of the most anticipated bouts of the year.
The June 27 card will also feature several notable undercard attractions, including Emiliano Vargas facing Bryce Mills in a super lightweight contest, Ben Whittaker taking on Richie Rivera at light heavyweight, and Jahi Tucker meeting Euri Cedeno in a middleweight showdown.
With championship belts, unbeaten records, and divisional supremacy on the line, Zayas versus Ennis promises to be a defining moment for both fighters and a major event in the super welterweight division.
