The French team confirmed the Argentine's continuity alongside Pierre Gasly. Briatore highlights his maturity and results, while the driver celebrates the trust placed in him for the team's future project.
The Alpine team has decided to put an end to the rumors and secure its medium term future. In a move that bets on continuity and internal growth, the Enstone team has confirmed that it will maintain its current driver lineup for the 2027 Formula 1 season. Franco Colapinto, the young Argentine who burst into the category with force, will continue to be Pierre Gasly's teammate, thus extending his link with the French structure.
The announcement, made through an official statement, comes at a key moment for the team. After a period of adaptation and changes, the team's management has positively valued the performance of its driver duo. The decision to renew Colapinto is not a minor gesture, it represents the consolidation of a project that seeks to cement its growth on the basis of a stable duo with high potential.
Colapinto's path in the team has been meteoric: he arrived in 2025 as a reserve driver, but an unexpected opportunity took him to the race seat from the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix onwards, replacing Jack Doohan, and since then, his evolution has been constant. In the current season, the Argentine has scored 19 points in six Grands Prix, demonstrating not only speed but also an adaptability and consistency that have convinced the management. His performances on circuits like Miami and Montreal have been particularly outstanding, confirming that his place in F1 is deserved and that his potential is far from having reached its ceiling.
Flavio Briatore, Alpine's executive advisor, has been one of the main architects of this continuity. The experienced Italian executive, known for his clinical eye for talent, did not hold back on praise for the Argentine driver: "We have seen Franco grow and mature to become a great driver this year. His results in Miami and Montreal confirmed what I already knew: Franco belongs to Formula 1 and he belongs to this team" stated Briatore in the statement. For the Italian, consistency in the lineup is a fundamental pillar: "For me, having consistency is very important, now we are established from the drivers' point of view."
Colapinto's renewal is part of a long term vision that also includes his teammate, Pierre Gasly, who signed a contract extension at the end of last season that links him to Alpine until 2028, has formed a solid partnership with the Argentine, both on and off the track. The team's management considers that this synergy is the "perfect pairing" to drive the team forward. Both drivers have worked hand in hand to help Alpine sit sixth in the Constructors' Championship, a goal they are more than fulfilling so far this year.
However, both Briatore and the drivers themselves are aware that the work is far from over. The executive advisor was clear in establishing priorities: "I have said many times that while this is an important piece of the puzzle, the most significant thing we must do right is to design and build a fast racing car, which remains our number one priority."
In this sense, the renewal news comes at a strategic moment, just before the Italian Grand Prix, where Alpine hopes to take a step forward with the upgrades that were already debuted on Gasly's car in Zandvoort.
For his part, Franco Colapinto was euphoric and grateful for the trust placed in him: "I'm very happy to stay with this team in 2027. I feel very happy and very settled here and it's been even better that we have progressed significantly this year compared to the past" declared the Argentine.
In addition, Franco underlined the team's ambitious goals: "Our long term goals are obvious: to compete and to win. I'm grateful to the team, to Flavio and to Steve (Nielsen, General Manager) for the trust they have placed in me."
With this renewal, Alpine closes any speculation about its driver lineup and sends a clear message of stability. Now, the focus is on technical development to make the quality leap that will take them to fight for the front positions.
The bet on Colapinto and Gasly is firm, and time will tell if this duo is the key to returning the French team to the elite of Formula 1.
