Valtteri Bottas explained what the journey was like from the first conversations to the excitement after Cadillac’s progress, a historic entry that connects passion, challenges, and a project coming to life.

Returning to the Formula 1 grid in 2026 represents much more for Valtteri Bottas than a simple comeback: it is the culmination of a journey that began years earlier, when there was still no certainty about Cadillac’s participation in the series.

The Finn has shared details of the process and explained how much each step meant to him and to everyone working on the project, from the initial discussions to the moment the car started running without visible issues.

Bottas said that his first conversations with Cadillac’s leaders date back more than three years, long before the American brand officially confirmed its entry into Formula 1. That first contact, according to him, sparked a flame that over time turned into a shared determination between driver and team to make real a challenge that many viewed as ambitious.

That ambition quickly translated into concrete efforts, hiring, and facility expansion in both the United States and the United Kingdom, culminating in a team that continues to evolve today. Bottas highlighted the palpable passion at every step and the remarkable speed with which momentum was gained, even in the face of obstacles that, at key moments, cast doubt on the initiative's direction.

There were especially emotional moments, according to the Finnish driver, when the team finally got the car running for the first time. “There were people crying when the car worked for the first time,” Bottas recalled, stressing that the mix of relief, pride, and collective emotion reflected the human effort behind the project.

That atmosphere of passion and commitment has not only been evident in the workshop, but also in the early stages of testing and launching the operation. The group’s cohesion and the willingness to work quickly and with determination have been factors Bottas has valued when describing his experience so far with Cadillac, especially after a year away from active competition.

Although the team has not yet completed its first competitive lap in a Grand Prix, the anticipation and dedication of everyone involved have become one of the defining notes of Cadillac’s arrival in F1. The joint work between Bottas and his teammate has also been key in building trust and continuity within a project that must face a steep learning curve against already established structures.

The Finn’s message is clear: Cadillac’s story in Formula 1 will not be measured only by lap times or results, but also by the dedication, growth, and emotional impact this beginning has had on those who have poured their energy into a dream that is now taking shape.
