Kimi Antonelli has shed light on the tense moments with Isack Hadjar after their dramatic sprint race collision that left the Red Bull junior’s car badly damaged.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli has put any hard feelings toward Isack Hadjar behind him following the incident during the sprint race in China.

The Mercedes driver admitted that the collision, which occurred last Saturday, was his fault, as Hadjar’s car sustained serious damage. Although the young Red Bull prospect initially rejected his apology, the tension between the two has now dissipated.

The incident occurred yesterday during the first lap of the sprint race, specifically at Turn 6. Antonelli got off to a rough start with power issues, dropping from second to eighth place.

In an attempt to immediately regain ground, he locked up a rear wheel and ended up sliding into the side of Hadjar’s car, causing considerable damage to the underside of the car and ending his rival’s race. As a result, he was handed a ten-second penalty and two points on his license, which left Hadjar visibly frustrated.

Although the incident created tension in the moment, situations like this are common in a sport where young drivers are constantly pushing the limits. With both Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Isack Hadjar considered rising talents, how they handle moments of conflict could shape their reputations and rivalries as their careers continue to develop throughout the season.

Apology Accepted

Although Hadjar initially refused to speak in the parc fermé, today both drivers took the opportunity to talk and clear the air.

"During the drivers' break, I was able to approach him, and everything has been resolved. Without a doubt, it was my mistake yesterday to accidentally collide with him, which affected his race. That’s why, at the end of the race, I went over to apologize,” explained Antonelli, making it clear that the situation has been resolved.

The young Italian understands his rival’s anger, especially given the intense emotions following the race. “I was right in the middle of the clash. We know Isack well and how he reacts in those high-tension moments, but today everything is peaceful," said the Mercedes driver.

Thus, it seems that strong tempers and competitiveness have been put aside, allowing both talents to focus on establishing themselves in a top-tier team.
