The Asturian said he will decide his future after the summer break, between Zandvoort and Monza. He ruled out rumors linking him to other teams and reiterated that he wants to win a World Championship with Aston Martin.
Fernando Alonso has come out to address the rumors linking him to a possible departure from Aston Martin at the end of the 2026 season, the Asturian said his commitment to the British team goes beyond his time as a driver and that he is in no hurry to make a decision about his future: "I haven't made any decision. I will probably wait until the summer break, which is in August. After the summer there is Zandvoort, Monza... I think around that time I will decide what to do next year" declared Alonso in the press day ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix.
The two time Spanish champion, who will turn 45 in July, ruled out rumors placing him at other teams and reaffirmed his commitment to the Silverstone project, regardless of whether he continues racing or not: "Whether I race in Formula 1 or not, that's another story. I need to enjoy the category, the feeling of driving this power unit and these regulations. There are many factors to consider and many options to compete in the motorsport world, I still love Formula 1 and I'm committed to this team" he stated.
Alonso, who competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Indianapolis 500 and the Dakar Rally during his F1 hiatus in 2019 and 2020, acknowledged that other categories still attract him, but stressed that F1 is very special: "It's still the pinnacle of motorsport and it's still attractive if we can overcome this situation, start off on the wrong foot and be so far behind now and if we can turn this situation around and make the car fast and competitive in the future or next year, that's also an attractive goal" he explained.
The Asturian was especially critical of those who speculate about his departure from the team: "There are always rumors, we were very mistreated by the outside world and it's normal. We are performing below expectations, we are in a bad moment and when the summer break arrives there are always rumors. There are rumors in the top teams, also in our case because we are performing below expectations but as I said my commitment to Aston Martin goes beyond my time as a driver" he stated.
Alonso reiterated his desire to win a World Championship with Aston Martin and said he will not give up because of the difficulties: "I never give up and I won't give up now because of some difficulties and a slow start, if anyone thinks we will give up now, they don't know the last 25 years of my life" concluded the two time champion, who trusts that the team can turn the situation around and become competitive again.
