The French team will limit the risk of its drivers in Canada due to the lack of spare parts. Gasly's heavy crash in Miami reduced the stock of components, Colapinto, for his part, revealed how he found out about his seventh place in Florida, a fan told him at the hotel.
The Canadian Grand Prix will not be just any weekend for Alpine, the French team has imposed a maximum caution order on its drivers, Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly, due to the shortage of spare parts, the reason, the very strong accident that the Frenchman starred in Miami, which damaged his car and reduced the stock of components available at the Enstone factory.
According to ESPN in the Media Day prior to the start of activity at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, both drivers perceive this indication as a limitation, especially on a weekend with a sprint format, where competitive activity is more intense and the risks of incidents increase. Caution, however, is necessary since Alpine cannot afford another accident that would further compromise its already diminished stock of parts.
Franco Colapinto faces the Canadian challenge with high morale, the Argentine arrives in Montreal after achieving his best result in Formula 1, a seventh place in Miami. The anecdote of how he found out about that position is, to say the least, curious.
The Argentine driver revealed to the official F1 website that it was not his team nor the stewards who informed him of the penalty to Charles Leclerc that moved him up a position: "It was really funny actually, I was checking out of the hotel, when I was approaching the hotel, a fan asked me for a photo. I went back downstairs to check out and, the same fan, who was outside, told me: 'Hey Franco, you're P7, congratulations!'" he recalled laughing.
"I was like, 'What? I was P8, not P7' and he said 'No, no, no, you're P7 now, there was a penalty for Charles' and I asked him, 'are you sure?' I looked at my phone and I had messages, and I was like, well, great, it was a good way to find out, honestly. You know, you never want to get points or a good result because of a penalty to another driver but... yeah," he concluded.
The seventh place in Miami has given Colapinto a boost, who has seven points so far this season and sits eleventh in the drivers' championship, his teammate Pierre Gasly, with 16 points, is ninth. Alpine, for its part, is fifth in the constructors' championship with 23 points, leading the midfield.
The goal in Canada is clear, to keep scoring. The caution order due to the shortage of parts will be a factor to consider, but Colapinto trusts in his ability to avoid trouble, the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, with its walls glued to the asphalt, does not forgive mistakes but the Argentine, as he showed in Miami, is ready.
The weekend promises strong emotions.
