There is a lot of excitement coming from the team ahead of this season. With new regulations in the mix, Adrian Newey’s design and their new Honda partnership, they are hopeful to see great results. Aston Martin Driver, Lance Stroll, says he is hopeful that they will be fighting for wins and maybe even a championship.
Fernando Alonso’s Mechanic, Mikey Brown, talks about Preseason testing, saying how Barcelona Shakedown Week provided a different kind of data then what they get at Bahrain. Barcelona tends to see cooler temperatures then what they typically see at other track, so it provides data about how the car acts in different climates, allowing the teams to better prepare.
When the drivers are given a chance to speak, Lance Stroll says it has been great to see the improvements the team has made since 2021 and that there is a lot of ambition among all members of the team. Fernando Alonso says this season is an important moment for the team, all things considered. There is no telling where this season will go, as everything can change from testing to the first race to the last. Alonso thinks that while the first races will be important to set the stage, it is the second half of the season that is going to make the difference for this season.
The event was going smoothly until they tried to play a behind the scenes video of their Media day. First the video wouldn’t play so the host, Jonie, and the Aston Martin Team Members on the screen started answering fan questions. After a few minutes of that it seemed that the video was finally ready to work, but the live stream dropped off for around 30-45 minutes. After restarting the live stream, it dropped off once again whilst talking to the drivers, but resumed shortly after.
After they came back from their technical issues, the livery is revealed to be in the typical Aston Martin green, but in a new satin finish that hasn’t been seen on an Aston Martin car. The livery also features some yellow accents as well as carbon fibre. All of the team's sponsors are also featured across the design, including their new partnership in Honda.
Adrian Newey comes out to talk about the car and describes the launch as one of the best he has seen, joking that he has seen a lot in his time. Newey talks about the long emotional journey of designing this car and getting it to Barcelona. He says he and Lawrence Stroll became particularly emotional when the car pulled out of the garage for the first time in Barcelona.
The AMR 26 is the first car to be fully built in the Aston Martin factory in Silverstone after the team joined F1 in 2021. Newey talks about how nice the factory is, but highlights that while the factory is nice, it is the people that really it and that Aston Martin has great people on their team.
Everyone involved in Aston Martin, from team members to team sponsors, are really looking forward to this season. They are confident that they have a car capable of fighting for the championship, but we will just have to wait and see how the season plays out.
