The Argentine said he hopes he doesn't have to wait until the end of the year to know about his continuity. Colapinto has 18 points this season and has been key in the midfield, although Alpine has lost ground to Racing Bulls.
Franco Colapinto has expressed his desire to resolve his future at Alpine before the end of the season, the Argentine hopes the team will communicate its decision on his continuity for 2027 before the championship ends: "I hope I don't have to wait until the end of the season" declared Colapinto ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix when asked if he felt he had already done enough to define his future before the end of the year.
The 23 year old driver is having his best season in Formula 1, scoring 18 points so far in the championship and achieving his best result in Canada with a sixth place. Colapinto has been a regular protagonist in the fight for points, although Alpine has lost ground in the midfield to teams like Racing Bulls and Sauber: "I think I'm just happy to be here and to be performing well. It's been a good year so far. Although, to be honest, we are having difficulties with the car. It hasn't been easy" said the Argentine.
Colapinto highlighted his ability to score points even in complicated situations, like at Silverstone where he started from nineteenth position after a floor problem during qualifying and managed to recover to ninth place: "Even in complicated situations, like Silverstone last week when we had that floor problem during qualifying. I ended up practically last in qualy, but I managed to score points and overtake ten cars in the race, those are the moments when I feel that this year I am much stronger and more confident" he explained.
The Argentine acknowledged that the team is working to improve the car's performance and recover lost ground: "We are working a lot to try to improve the car because right now it's not fast enough and the others are catching up very quickly, in fact I think Racing Bulls has already overtaken us, so we are doing a lot of work to improve the car, make it faster and solve our problems" he stated.
Colapinto said there have been no conversations with Alpine about his future: "I haven't talked at all about next year, I'm focused only on going race by race and trying to score points" he declared. Alpine announced his continuity for 2026 during the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend in 2025, and the Argentine hopes that the decision on 2027 will be made before the end of the season.
Colapinto's future at Alpine will depend on his performance and the French team's decisions, which will have to choose between the Argentine and other possible candidates for the second seat.
