The Argentine Alpine driver arrives in his best moment after two consecutive great performances. "It's exciting to go faster and faster and since overtaking is so complicated, Saturday is probably the most important day of the whole year," he stated.
Franco Colapinto is preparing to face one of the most special weekends of the Formula 1 calendar, the Argentine Alpine driver arrives at the Monaco Grand Prix in the best moment of his short career after two consecutive great performances in Miami (seventh) and Canada (sixth), results that have allowed him to score 15 points so far this season and place himself in eleventh position in the drivers' championship.
The Enstone team, for its part, sits fifth in the constructors' championship with 35 points, consolidating itself as the undisputed leader of the midfield.
The principality's urban track is one of the most demanding in the world and Colapinto, who lives in Monaco, had the opportunity to watch how the circuit is built from his own home: "I've seen them build the circuit when I'm at home and I can't wait to get out on track myself in the first free practice session on Friday, we're back to a traditional calendar for the first time since Suzuka, so we'll be able to familiarize ourselves with the track and gain confidence in each session" explained the Argentine in a statement released by Alpine.
Colapinto highlighted the importance of qualifying on a circuit where overtaking is practically impossible, Saturday becomes the key day of the weekend: "It's exciting to go faster and faster and since overtaking is so complicated on this circuit, Saturday is probably the most important day of the whole year, it's going to be a busy weekend and our goal is to finish in the top ten again and continue our solid performance" stated the Argentine.
Colapinto revealed that he was on the simulator on Monday after the race in Canada and that he worked hard with the team before a quick visit to Paris to celebrate his birthday, after which he returned directly to Enstone to spend more time with the engineers and prepare for the start of the busy European season: "It's been a very busy rest week for the team since the race in Montreal and a very positive one as we look to maintain our strong momentum" explained the driver.
Pierre Gasly, Colapinto's teammate at Alpine, was also excited ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix: "I'm looking forward to this weekend, one of my favorite Grands Prix of the season, it's one of those circuits with so much prestige and history that it's a pleasure to drive a Formula 1 car here every year" declared the Frenchman, who has 20 points in the championship and is coming off a great comeback in Canada.
