Formula 1 returns to the streets of Baku for the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix on September 24-26. Before we go racing again this week, let's look at the updated head-to-head race records (Grand Prix only) between teammates.
Mercedes: Antonelli (10) - (4) Russell
After winning the Spanish Grand Prix, Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli has extended his championship lead to 81 points over teammate George Russell. Since that painful 15th-place finish at Silverstone, Antonelli has won thrice (including the last two) and finished on the podium in the last five races.
Ferrari: Hamilton (8) - (6) Leclerc
Brake problems forced Lewis Hamilton to retire early at Madrid, allowing Charles Leclerc to trim his head-to-head deficit to his teammate to two. But that deficit might return to three, as Leclerc is rumored to receive a grid penalty at Baku for possibly exceeding his engine allocation.
McLaren: Norris (8) - (5) Piastri
Oscar Piastri needs to find his rhythm in qualifying to stay in touch in this teammate battle. Reigning World Champion Lando Norris is in the groove right now, having finished at least P4 in the last four races.
Red Bull: Verstappen (8) - (3) Hadjar
After missing three consecutive race weekends, rumors say that Isack Hadjar will return at Baku. He has been very good before his unfortunate wrist injury, but Max Verstappen has been better. Aside from the two DNFs, Verstappen has finished on the podium in five of the last seven races.
Racing Bulls: Lawson (8) - (3) Lindblad
With Hadjar potentially returning at Baku, Liam Lawson moves from the main Red Bull seat to his original cockpit at the Racing Bulls. As expected and as he should, Lawson has managed to outpace and outscore rookie teammate Arvid Lindblad.
Alpine: Gasly (9) - (5) Colapinto
Pierre Gasly is having a tremendous season so far, but don't count out the resilient Franco Colapinto. The Argentine driver has scored in the last two races, so expect more good stuff from him at Baku.
Haas: Bearman (8) - (5) Ocon
The possibility of Formula 2 driver Rafael Camara getting a Haas F1 seat in 2027 is getting more traction as the days pass by. There's a heightened sense of urgency for Esteban Ocon to do better in the remaining races. Getting outscored by your younger teammate is never a good PR.
Audi: Bortoleto (8) - (6) Hulkenberg
This is one of the closest intra-team battles this season, especially considering that Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto are tied in qualifying performances (7-7). But the more important goal for these two drivers is to perform well and possibly work together to overtake Haas for P7 in the Teams' Standings.
Williams: Sainz (8) - (6) Albon
Three P9 finishes in the first five races of the season built a bit of cushion for Carlos Sainz Jr., but recent times have been very tough for him and teammate Alex Albon. There's still hope for them this season, as Williams is reportedly bringing a major upgrade package to Baku.
Aston Martin: Alonso (8) - (2) Stroll
This is the most lopsided Grand Prix gap between two teammates this season, but frankly, does it matter? 2026 seems to be an experimental campaign for Aston Martin, with DNFs for both drivers all over the place.
Cadillac: Perez (8) - (4) Bottas
Colton Herta announced that he's not interested in returning to F2 next season, so Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas might have secured their F1 jobs for 2027. But this is still a war of attrition between the two seasoned drivers, especially over who can score Cadillac's first points in F1.
