A new driver is entering the Formula 1 grid in 2027.

Well, there we go. Only three 2027 seats are available on the grid, although we already have a good prediction on two of those seats.

From an older pairing of Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg in 2024, Haas has officially switched gears to youth movement. Just who these drivers are, let's find out below.

Camara steps up to Formula 1

Another Ferrari Driver Academy member is stepping up to an F1 seat. Haas officially announced the signing of 21-year-old Rafael Camara, a Ferrari junior and Formula 2 driver who races for Invicta Racing.

Camara currently leads the F2 Championship by seven points over Campos Racing's Nikola Tsolov. He will be the second Brazilian driver on the grid, after compatriot Gabriel Bortoleto was promoted to the Kick Sauber (Audi now) seat in 2025.

Camara also becomes the fifth Ferrari Driver Academy to get a current seat in Formula 1. The list includes Cadillac's Sergio Perez, Aston Martin's Lance Stroll, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, and his potential teammate, Oliver Bearman. Haas hasn't confirmed Bearman for 2027 yet, but it's expected that they'll make that announcement soon.

The 2027 technical arms race gets stricter

The FIA has tightened the 2027 technical regulations to close a bodywork loophole exploited by Red Bull and Audi on their 2026 cars. Both teams found a clever way to make the bottom edge of their sidepods much sharper than the rules normally allow. This paved the way for better airflow, which helped generate downforce.

Teams can no longer use that trick next year. Red Bull and Audi will have to redesign that part of their cars.

This is just part of the several changes that the FIA will enforce for the second year of the new hybrid era.

Williams prepares for their 50th anniversary in F1

In 2027, Williams will be the third team to reach 50 years in Formula 1. As part of their celebrations, Williams will call its 2027 car the FW50. As context, the team called its car the FW40 in 2017, when they celebrated their 40th anniversary. This year, the Williams' current challenger is the FW48.

The team also plans to mark their 50th season with a London exhibition, an FW50 chassis designation, and a fan-selected livery for the 2027 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Williams is a British team that's headquartered in Grove, Oxfordshire.

South Africa isn't giving up on its F1 bid

Despite Rwanda succeeding in its bid to host an F1 Grand Prix, South Africa isn't giving up on their ambitions just yet. South African Sports, Arts, and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie says that they are still aspiring to host an F1 race, potentially in 2028 or 2029.

The last F1 race on the continent was held in South Africa in 1993, specifically at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. Take note that Rwanda is not in South Africa, but is in the Eastern part of the continent.
