From a rainy last-lap miracle in Brazil to a qualifying masterclass in Singapore, revisit the defining triumphs that transformed a rookie sensation into a seven-time world champion.
Sir Lewis Hamilton, born on January 7, 1985, has become one of the most legendary drivers in the history of the sport in recent years. The Briton boasts a treasure trove of iconic moments.
His first victory
He achieved this during the Canadian Grand Prix at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit in 2007. The young Lewis Hamilton secured pole position on Saturday and reaped the rewards on Sunday.
However, it wasn't an easy or smooth race: Robert Kubica, among others, caused a major incident with his BMW Sauber, forcing the race to be neutralized. In the end, the Briton remained calm and managed to secure the first victory of his career.
His first world title
Then came Lewis Hamilton's first F1 Drivers Championship in 2008, after his thrilling rookie season in 2007 left him just one point behind the reigning Ferrari champion, Kimi Räikkönen. However, in 2008, the tables were turned.
In a legendary race at Interlagos, local favorite Felipe Massa won on a rainy day, which seemed to send the Brazilian crowd into a frenzy and the party had already begun in the Ferrari pit box, even though the final lap of the race was still to come.
That seemed to be happening, but due to a sudden downpour towards the end of the race, it was Timo Glock who barely managed to find grip on his tires, allowing Hamilton to overtake him on the final corner and claim his first world title, much to the dismay of the Brazilian fans.
The Singapore Night
One of his greatest feats took place during the 2018 Singapore Grand Prix. The Mercedes had been quite difficult to drive on the Marina Bay circuit all weekend, and even in Q1 things almost went wrong for the now seven-time world champion when he nearly encountered his Waterloo, but he managed to escape.
He finally made it into Q3 and found one of the fastest and most unexpected laps of his illustrious career, beating Verstappen by more than three-tenths of a second for pole position. From there, he also went on to win Sunday's race and took a giant step towards the world title.
The Interlagos Comeback
Despite losing the world title to Verstappen in 2021, Hamilton perhaps had the best race weekend of his career that year at the famous Interlagos circuit. The seven-time world champion suffered a DSQ early in the weekend after qualifying due to a rear wing that was too wide, so his result was invalidated and he had to start Saturday's sprint race from the back of the grid.
During the sprint race, which only lasted 24 laps, the Briton sliced through the field like a hot knife through butter and cruised to fifth place. The Interlagos Comeback At that point, he already had an additional five-place penalty for exceeding the number of pieces allowed, which meant he started tenth on Sunday. It was no problem for the Briton. He crushed the entire field, including Verstappen, and took the victory.
