Oliver Bearman, not Esteban Ocon, will receive a new power unit upgrade in the Italian Grand Prix.
The good news is that Haas will receive Ferrari's latest Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) power unit upgrade.
The bad news? Only one of their drivers will get the new power unit. And it's not Esteban Ocon.
Ocon himself recently revealed that Ferrari has supplied Haas with only one ADUO2 power unit for the 2026 F1 Italian Grand Prix. It was agreed upon within the team that they will fit the new PU in Oliver Bearman's car. Therefore, Ocon will run the older Ferrari engine specification.
While he acknowledged that it could result in a performance loss, the French driver is still excited about the rest of the Haas package at Monza.
Haas brings a new aerodynamic package
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu confirmed that both Bearman and Ocon will receive a new aerodynamic package.
This is extremely important in Monza, as teams would run very low-downforce setups. Since the circuit is dominated by long straights, drivers spend a huge amount of the laps accelerating toward very high speeds, with only a handful of major braking zones and corners.
So, a good Monza aero package needs to produce the right amount of downforce as efficiently as possible. Teams will still use the three practice sessions to test which configurations can give them the most efficient low-drag setup.
If Haas got this part right, Ocon, even without the new Ferrari power unit, should extract more performance from his car.
Haas trying to close the gap in the midfield
The team started the 2026 season on a very strong note. They totalled 17 points in the first two races, starting with Bearman finishing sixth in Australia. Then, Bearman followed that up with a stronger weekend in China, where he finished fifth.
Early on, Haas looked like they were the strongest in the midfield. But their advantage wore off as the season progressed. Since China, the team would score only four points in the next 10 races. They're currently P7 in the Constructors' Championship, trailing Racing Bulls and Alpine in the midfield.
And if they're not careful, they might even lose that seventh place. Audi, which has scored in the last four races, is only five points behind Haas.
That's why this Monza race is important for Haas, especially for Ocon's future with the team. Komatsu hasn't said anything definite yet, but Ocon's underwhelming 2026 performance puts his F1 future in danger.
