The French driver did a barrel roll after a touch on lap 5: "It was very terrifying, I was in the air with no control at all," he declared.

The Miami Grand Prix left a shocking image: Pierre Gasly, the Alpine driver, starred in one of the most spectacular accidents of the weekend when he did a barrel roll after a touch with Liam Lawson on the fifth lap. The Frenchman, who had started eighth, was out of the race immediately.

"Luckily I'm okay. It was very terrifying, because I was in the air with no control at all. I hit the wall from the back first. I didn't even know where I was going to land. So it wasn't pleasant," Gasly declared at the end of the race, still visibly affected by the scare, he spoke to the media.

The incident occurred when Gasly was trying to overtake Lawson at the last corner, the Frenchman assured that he gave the New Zealander enough room to avoid contact: "I knew he was there, I knew we were side by side, unfortunately, we probably would have had to accept losing the position, but I knew he would still try, that's why I left the space, a car and a half on the inside," he explained.

The FIA analyzed the accident and determined that the fault was not Lawson's, the stewards verified that the Racing Bulls driver's gearbox failed just before the impact, which caused him to extend his braking more than necessary and he could not avoid the collision. No penalty was imposed.

Gasly's accident marred a weekend that, until that moment, had been very positive for Alpine. The French team has established itself as the benchmark in the midfield. In Miami, they managed to qualify both their drivers in Q3. Franco Colapinto, Gasly's teammate, finished seventh after Charles Leclerc's penalty, scoring important points for the team.

Gasly, for his part, came from a brilliant performance in Japan, where he managed to hold off Max Verstappen's Red Bull for the entire race. In Miami, expectations were high. Alpine had a clear advantage over Williams, its closest pursuer, and the Frenchman trusted to add a good haul of points, the accident cut those plans short.

The start of the race had already been accidented: At the start, Max Verstappen spun, Franco Colapinto and Lewis Hamilton touched, and the Briton responded with a controversial gesture by overtaking him on the back straight, shortly after, Isack Hadjar went off into the wall on his own and then came Gasly's rollover.

The Alpine driver, after the scare, had only words of relief for not having suffered physical damage but the disappointment at the result was evident. Alpine, which is experiencing a rebirth in 2026 thanks to the Mercedes engine and a competitive car, lost a golden opportunity to score valuable points in the constructors' championship. Gasly, meanwhile, is already thinking about Canada.
