The French manufacturer would be in favor of renewing the link with the Argentine, according to Renault Confidential. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso, George Russell and Carlos Sainz are mentioned as possible candidates for the seat.
Franco Colapinto's future at Alpine is beginning to take shape and the Renault Group would have a favorable position towards the Argentine, according to the specialized media outlet Renault Confidential. The French company, which reaffirmed its commitment to the Formula 1 project despite the sale rumors, would be in favor of renewing the link with the young driver from Pilar after he has proven his worth and has matched his teammate Pierre Gasly in performance.
The current situation at Alpine is very different from that of 2025, the French team has made a leap in quality this season and has established itself as the midfield reference, which makes the Enstone team an attractive destination for the drivers on the grid. Gasly already has his future secured because he renewed his contract until the end of 2028 and is considered the team's leader due to his experience and his career within the team, but the second seat is up in the air and several names are mentioned as possible candidates.
Fernando Alonso is one of the protagonists who has been strongly mentioned, the Asturian ends his contract with Aston Martin at the end of 2026 and has not decided whether he will continue in Formula 1 or retire at the end of the season. George Russell also appears on Alpine's radar, the Briton still does not know what his future will be at Mercedes, where the possible arrival of Max Verstappen could free up a seat that Russell himself would occupy at the German team.
Carlos Sainz is another name linked to the French team, although the Spaniard would be closer to Audi than to Alpine, according to the latest information.
Further back in the consideration are Paul Aron and Alex Dunne, two young drivers who could be options if Alpine decides to bet on a younger profile to accompany Gasly. However, the Renault Group's position seems to lean towards Colapinto, who has been one of the revelations of the season and has proven that he can compete at the same level as his experienced teammate.
Franco will have to sustain his performance in the upcoming races to confirm the good feelings he has left in the first seven Grands Prix, and the internal competition with Gasly will be a thermometer to measure his capacity for growth.
Flavio Briatore, Alpine's executive advisor, assured that news about the future of the lineup will not arrive until August, so the Argentine has enough time to continue proving his worth.
