After ending his Ferrari drought in Barcelona, a revitalized Lewis Hamilton credits emotional stability—and a high-profile new romance—for fueling his dramatic return to the winner's circle.

Lewis Hamilton won the Barcelona Grand Prix at the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship, ending a long and painful wait for his first victory in red after joining Ferrari in 2025 in one of the most seismic moves in recent F1 history. His victory comes at a crucial moment in the Briton's career amid rumors of a possible retirement from the category due to the problems he has experienced in recent years.

Some, including Mercedes team principal and former Hamilton boss Toto Wolff, believe part of the credit belongs to the seven-time world champion's new relationship with entertainment megastar Kim Kardashian. Wolff addressed the topic with a smile during his post-race media duties in Barcelona.

Speaking to the press, Wolff said the dynamic within the team appeared strong between Hamilton and his race engineer. He noted that seeing Hamilton on the podium on TV showed a man who was genuinely happy, adding that maybe the girlfriend helps — just as having a stable home life had helped him personally. He described Kardashian and Hamilton as seeming to get along really well.

Wolff went on to say that he believed it was a combination of emotional, personal, and professional factors all coming together at once. He has always maintained that if it isn't one of his two Mercedes drivers winning, then it should be Lewis — and on Sunday in Barcelona, he deserved it. Wolff also acknowledged that the Virtual Safety Car may have arrived at the right moment for Hamilton, but stressed that is simply how racing works.

Why Does This Victory Matter So Much for Lewis Hamilton?

Hamilton's move from Mercedes to Ferrari remains one of the most discussed transfers in recent memory among F1 fans. It marked the end of an era — the British driver leaving the team where he claimed the majority of his world titles to join arguably the most high-profile outfit in the paddock.

His 2025 season with the Scuderia was a source of deep frustration. Results were poor, strategic calls went wrong, and the car simply wasn't competitive enough to allow Hamilton to perform at his level. The speculation grew so intense that retirement began to be openly discussed as a real possibility.

The arrival of sweeping new regulations for the 2026 season gave Hamilton renewed hope that conditions at Ferrari would improve. While Mercedes and rookie sensation Andrea Kimi Antonelli dominated the early rounds, Hamilton's Barcelona win proves the comeback is on — and that a title challenge may not be as far-fetched as it seemed just weeks ago.
